Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Urgent: Tesco now giving 4,800 Avios / 5,000 Flying Club miles with Diablo III purchases

Yesterday was one of those odd days.

On Friday night I wrote an article about pre-ordering video game Diablo III from Tesco Direct which was offering 1,000 bonus Clubcard points (2,400 Avios).

When I woke up on Saturday morning, with the post live, the bonus was down to 500 points and the deal didn’t make sense financially.  I was very grumpy (I can change the site but I can’t recall 1,200 emails).

Then, during the day, it went up again.  Not to 1,000, but to 1,500 Clubcard points.

And now, it is giving 2,000 bonus points per copy.

2,040 Clubcard points – over 5,000 Avios in total – is a great deal for a £40 video game which should resell for £30 on eBay with little trouble.

Do NOT order more than one per person as Tesco has, of late, been cancelling multiple orders.  Remember the Dan Brown book etc.

I normally give these a pass unless I want the actual thing, but 2000 clubcard points (£20 vouchers) would be worth more than £40 in most Tesco awards, so even if I only resell it for £10 I should be well up. Thanks Raflles! (The £5 off code did not work for me.)

    • chris says:

your better using the 2000 points (£20) for a x4 reward like goldsmith (true only currently at x3 but tescos have put them up to x4 for the past 3 or 4 christmas’s, than just reselling whatever it is you buy via gumtree or facebook or friends and family, you could also just sell the vouchers that tescos sents to again friends or family or real life buyers that you can meet, you without buying anything tho if you do that you must go with who you sell them to since some times goldsmiths do ask for prove of who you are)

like that you should be able to get atless 70% back of the x4 ect (£20 x 4 = £80, 70% of £80 = £56 in cash vs 2x £40, tho true for small amounts its not always worth it over a x2 reward,)

for my already £180 in points this year it will be tho (£360 doubled, or as above £504)

you can also eat out and few other things you can do are at x4 all year round,

also tho i wouldnt personally do this for anyone looking to bring the cost down you can use your current CC vouchers in the tesco summer rewards program at 2x they value until the 11th unless they changed the rules or end date anyways (pay £20 cc vouchers and the games free)

What would you hope to get from CEX? Would it be a good or bad idea to offer them 3 copies at once? Never used them before. Thx.

    • chris says:

since you can sell up to 5 copys of each game to cex via they online site at one time, i dont think they would be an issue with selling 3 at once either online or in real life,

as for what your’d get from them no one knows, if you based the return on currently paid cex prices for hot selling console games tho you would be looking at between £15 and £25

‘Do NOT order more than one per person as Tesco has, of late, been cancelling multiple orders. Remember the Dan Brown book etc.’

Would that apply even if I bought one in Playstation format and one in Xbox?

    Thx

    • mrtibbs1999 says:

I would have no qualms about ordering plenty of these, so long as you do 1 per order.

    • chris says:

topically you can buy one of each format

the more than one just applys to the same item in the same format

since you might have both systems, i think you could even buy all 3 (ps3 ps4 and xbox 360), and tescos would be ok with that, tho ofc they is no point in buying the ps4 as the points bonus does not work with that format

  • Rachel says:

Excellent, cheers Raffles. Just ordered my copy. Went via the BA store and also used the voucher code. Note: I hadn’t actually seen the post about the voucher code before ordering. I just remembered that in my last batch of club card vouchers I also got sent a bunch of coupons for money off / extra points at Tesco and the £5 off voucher was one of them. I don’t have a Tesco credit card so targeted at certain members perhaps.

  • CC says:

Have ordered 1 on PS3 and 1 on XBOX, they shouldn’t cancel points for that, its 2 separate products, done on 2 separate transactions.

  • Anders says:

Got the 2040 Clubcard points, brilliant! Thanks for the tip, Raffles.

  • AviosNewbie says:

Thanks Raffles. When do the clubpoints actually post in the tesco account? I placed the order, and the confirmation page showed 2,000 points, but they aren’t visible in my tesco account.

    • chris says:

topically tesco direct orders take 24 – 72 hours after the order,

tho thats not a fact, just based on past orders

  • AviosNewbie says:

Also, if you have 2 clubcard accounts (yourself and partner), you can order 2 copies of the game giving you a cool 10k avios. If it’s separate accounts, I don’t think Tesco will flag it as suspicious.

    • chris says:

2 each clubcard holder should be fine, since the extra sets could be gifts for christmas or birthdays, the problem is when people order 100’s of copys
