Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Urgent: Tesco now giving 4,800 Avios / 5,000 Flying Club miles with Diablo III purchases

Yesterday was one of those odd days.

On Friday night I wrote an article about pre-ordering video game Diablo III from Tesco Direct which was offering 1,000 bonus Clubcard points (2,400 Avios).

When I woke up on Saturday morning, with the post live, the bonus was down to 500 points and the deal didn’t make sense financially.  I was very grumpy (I can change the site but I can’t recall 1,200 emails).

Then, during the day, it went up again.  Not to 1,000, but to 1,500 Clubcard points.

And now, it is giving 2,000 bonus points per copy.

2,040 Clubcard points – over 5,000 Avios in total – is a great deal for a £40 video game which should resell for £30 on eBay with little trouble.

Do NOT order more than one per person as Tesco has, of late, been cancelling multiple orders.  Remember the Dan Brown book etc.

I’ve returned books to Waterstones without a receipt in the past and been given a credit note. I’m wondering if the same principle might apply at Tesco or other game retailers if here are any?

  • Dave P says:

When will the points be posted – immediately as it is a purchase or when item is dispatched in the post?

    • chris says:

tesco direct orders are topically 24 – 72 hours after the orders was placed, for the points to show

so you should see them within the next few days

  • Ace says:

Can I buy a PS3 version and get these points? I already bought the xbox version

    • chris says:

since the 2 games are 2 formats you should be fine buying both, since they 2 different items

  • Ace says:

    1.08PM still working

  • Toddy says:

    Still working at 3.29.

Slightly off topic here, but I’ve been fortunate enough to get my hands on a lot of 3V cards. I am now in touching distance of 30,000 (£300) in Clubcard points. I understand that Tesco have a maximum of 30,000 “per period”.

Has anyone any advice for me?
Shall I get another clubcard? If so, can points be transferred between cards etc?
Or just continue collecting with this one?

    • chris says:

the per period means they quarterly statements witch the next one is the 20th or shortly after of this month, so just either not do anything CC wise until then or get CC another card tho might have to be in another family members name since they would just add another card in your name to your account since each account can have up to 2 CC, tho i dont know for sure if the 30,000 is per CC or per account

      • GlennM says:

Hi, I have exceeded the 30k CC limit on multiple occassions, they have never enforced. (On one occasion it was nearly 90k!) – If they do kick up a fuss, just ask them to carry them over, and promise them you’ll observe it in future, but do make the point, it would be silly to stop shopping at a Tesco store just because they don’t want your loyalty! In any case, Tesco does do some promos (such as Mobile Phones) where you receive up to 35k CC, as well as 100k chances.

  • jb says:

    “maximum of 30,000 “per period”

    How long is a period?

    • chris says:

      a quarter (3 months)

tho as glenn said above i doubt they would enforce it, why lose customers

  • squillion says:

Varies but ISTR there are 4 periods in a year so typically 3 months, the current period will be shorter than that.

  • jb says:

@ glenn they do promotions with 35k cc points ? when / and what type of deals?
    also whats the 100k chances?

    • GlennM says:

I’ve seen these on the 35k ones are on mobile phone contracts in the past – haven’t seen them in a while. The 100k CC’s are for silly competitions that no one ever has a chance of winning! Tesco Recycling also use to do CC points for recycling mobile phones which was pretty good, but thats now discontinued, at least so far this year.
