Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Urgent: Tesco now giving 4,800 Avios / 5,000 Flying Club miles with Diablo III purchases

Yesterday was one of those odd days.

On Friday night I wrote an article about pre-ordering video game Diablo III from Tesco Direct which was offering 1,000 bonus Clubcard points (2,400 Avios).

When I woke up on Saturday morning, with the post live, the bonus was down to 500 points and the deal didn’t make sense financially.  I was very grumpy (I can change the site but I can’t recall 1,200 emails).

Then, during the day, it went up again.  Not to 1,000, but to 1,500 Clubcard points.

And now, it is giving 2,000 bonus points per copy.

2,040 Clubcard points – over 5,000 Avios in total – is a great deal for a £40 video game which should resell for £30 on eBay with little trouble.

Do NOT order more than one per person as Tesco has, of late, been cancelling multiple orders.  Remember the Dan Brown book etc.

Bowed to temptation! Maths works for me. 3 games gets me ow HKG-BKK in J for 3 games at £120 + £16 tax on CX, a route I fly often. Whatever I get back on the games and a possible bonus conversion just sweetens the deal. Thx again Raffles.

  • Volker says:

Thanks, Raffles! Glad I didn’t order yesterday. And very happy that I got up early today. Obviously too tired though to remember the £5 off opportunity. Never mind.

Just one question: How do you guys spot all these extra points opportunities? I have subscribed to all newsletters I could think of and I scan several websites every day, but offers like this Diablo one seem to be pretty hidden.

  • What's the Point says:

How do Tesco make money on this type of offer?Just bought another xbox copy under Mrs WTP’s account, which I will be selling as soon as it turns up (Sep or Jan)
What I don’t know yet, is the game might be truly terrible and I won’t get any where near the £30 second hand value.

    • chris says:

tesco buy wholesale like all other retailers, and they pay i’d say about £20 per game

witch since you paid them £40 thats still double for them, as for the points they basically free to tescos just like money is free to the bank of england, as its printed in house

      • mrtibbs1999 says:

Tesco make next to no money on games. The wholesale price is shockingly high. Source: My friend who is the regional manager for Game.

    • Rob says:

Tesco Direct lost £60m last year IIRC, which might answer your question!

  • bookish says:

I’ve had it work previously when I pre-ordered Now 83. Mine has tracked this time as well so will see if it is is paid.

  • Ray says:

Did everyone get a confirmation e-mail from Tesco s on these orders?
I haven’t received any for my two orders and they normally sent them instantly.

    • chris says:

unless you ordered an insane amount (and flagged yourself), you should of got one by now

      checked junk?

if not email / call them monday and see if they can help

      • Ray says:

Two orders, one last night for the game( order showing “Sent to fulfillment”).
Another order this morning for the game and a Nintindo DS console. This order also says game “Sent to fulfillment” and the console as “Confirmed”. However no e-mail confirmation. Checked Junk folder, nothing there, but I’ve had no probs with e-mails fron Tescos before.

  • Nohoman says:

Ordered. Can we take it back to any retailers including Tesco and get a store voucher to spend on something we want (and not lose the Avios) ??

    • chris says:

returning it to tescos just like canceling your order after the points come thu, would mean forfiting the points,

tesco might be nice with these deals but they not that tarded

    • Neil says:

Really? I’m all for maximising CC/Avios but what you’re talking about is taking the piss. Just sell the game.

  • pazza2000 says:

My order placed this morning has just been cancelled

    • pazza2000 says:

…scrap that, it was cancelled because of a payment card issue.

  • roger says:

Tracked @£1.37 (used £5 off code, so spend was £35)
