Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Urgent: Tesco now giving 4,800 Avios / 5,000 Flying Club miles with Diablo III purchases

Yesterday was one of those odd days.

On Friday night I wrote an article about pre-ordering video game Diablo III from Tesco Direct which was offering 1,000 bonus Clubcard points (2,400 Avios).

When I woke up on Saturday morning, with the post live, the bonus was down to 500 points and the deal didn’t make sense financially.  I was very grumpy (I can change the site but I can’t recall 1,200 emails).

Then, during the day, it went up again.  Not to 1,000, but to 1,500 Clubcard points.

And now, it is giving 2,000 bonus points per copy.

2,040 Clubcard points – over 5,000 Avios in total – is a great deal for a £40 video game which should resell for £30 on eBay with little trouble.

Do NOT order more than one per person as Tesco has, of late, been cancelling multiple orders.  Remember the Dan Brown book etc.

Gah… did xbox version at 1000 points and PS3 at 1500 on the assumption that the next move would be removal of offer, not increase to 2000!!! And doesn’t work on PS4 version……

  • Will says:

Had been looking at this yesterday but with 2000 extra it was impossible to refuse. Ordered just before 9am. Fingers crossed. Does anyone know I’d amex gold give double points on tesco direct spend?

    • Mark says:

Yes, though obviously only in the first year of membership.

  • Will says:

That answers my qn below! Thanks 🙂

  • Ray says:

Placed an order last night with the 1540 points. Just placed another order now with the extra 500. Let’s wait and see if they fulfill the two orders :). The £5 off code did not work for me.

  • wilfred47 says:

Just got one, thanks. Offer also available for Xbox at the moment

  • Gabriel says:

How long does it take for the points to be awarded in the account?

    • GlennM says:

As a general rule, I find TescoDirect automatically apply points within 2-3 working days. If its a coupon sometimes that takes longer. If it doesn’t show straight away, don’t expect it to just be done when they roll over in July (20th) – that rarely happens.

  • Ryan says:

The second hand market is going to be flooded with this game!

  • Alan says:

Definitely a great deal if you actually want the game 🙂 For purely buying to resell I think I’ll give it a pass – after eBay/Paypal fees, postage, etc I’d be probably betting on closer to £20-25 reimbursement (ie. £15-20 acquisition cost) for 4,896 Avios, which is just edging under the 0.5p/Avios price that I’d consider worthwhile – not to mention the hassle of reselling on eBay. Of course I’m lucky to still have the 2 Avios per GBP bmi MC (i.e. 0.5p/Avios) which changes the equation slightly 😀

    • Alan says:

I hadn’t factored in the BA store bonus but was getting just over 0.4p/Avios – as I say for the hassle involved not quite worth it for me, but obviously it depends on your Avios balance and how else you can acquire points.

      • Simon says:

If you travel by train £20 worth of Tesco points gives £40 worth of Red Spotted Hanky vouchers so any money made on selling the game would be profit, I agree I find selling on eBay a pain though.
