We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Agreed, they are usually fine if it’s a one-off. I pay all our bills as if it was up to my OH everything would be on DD and there would be no points opportunities 😱

    • Anna says:

That was re refunding the fee. As to the marker, I think I missed a First Direct credit card payment once years ago before t’internet and I can’t say it had any effect on my credit rating.

    • Jody says:

I can relate! I think the problem was that he never used the card other than this one transaction. He would get the monthly email that his statement was ready, and just ignored them because he didn’t use the card. We were then on holiday for 2 weeks, still didn’t enter his head because he’d forgotten about the one time use.

I think he was only a few days late, and he didn’t receive any late payment notification. He only discovered it because he logged in a couple of days ago to see if he’d received the referral points from referring me, and saw the late payment charge on his account. He then paid it straight away (the charge of £12 was around the same as the balance on there).

Wish I’d asked on here a couple of days ago before he went ahead and just paid it off.

And to those who’ve mentioned it, we’re both signed up to Credit Karma so can keep an eye on things.

      • Lyn says:

They may still refund the fee, since it was a one-off occurrence, if your husband calls. It might make him feel a bit better about it!

      • Damian says:

If he paid it before the next statement was generated it won’t be shown as a late payment. I have had a friend do the same.

  • Chris says:

Worked with me on a Dell Outlet purchase two weeks ago and had the statement credit before the order arrived.

  • VickyTM says:

Hi everyone, any recommendations for hotels in Miami over Christmas? I have IHG and ambassador status if that counts for anything. Thanks

  • elguiri says:

Also check with any employer perks site you might have access to. When I last did the dell amex offer, I also got a 10% and a 15% Xexec discount codes to stack and saved about £400 in total on £1000 spend.

  • AngryOctopus says:

OH and I booked some flights on amex travel (separately, around the same time) she had her £100 off £400 posted, I’m still waiting….completely random?

  • Jill ( Kinkell ) says:

Ihave just cancelled a redemption 241 CW to Delhi. on 19 Jan 2022
and return in F from HKG to LHR on 15 Feb 2022.. Fastest finger first!

Late payments are only reported to the credit reference agencies once a month, and most lenders cut off on the last working day. If your payment wasn’t overdue over the month end, there will be nothing to report.

For a first missed payment, the reporting rules require lenders to offer a reasonable period to allow technical issues and forgetfulness to be sorted out, but few lenders do this is it’s computationally complex. If you responded promptly to the reminder, I would wait a month and check your report from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. If you are showing overdue, you could ask Amex to correct your entry on the grounds that they had not allowed you time to rectify the error. I work for a lender, and we are happy to do that for our borrowers.

    • Blenz101 says:

On say credit karma you see a green tick for each payment made on time. If you make a late payment you would get a red X. So this information will be reported, it’s factual.

I doubt many borrowers would add much weight to a single late payment though but each will have their own criteria.

      • Andy D says:

Might make getting credit easier as you have shown to be a fee-earning profitable customer who pays their bills anyway 🙂

  • Paul says:

Anyone flown Turkish business lately? They really have upped their game. Was good before but now possibly best service I have ever had in business. Personal meet and greet with chef dressed in full whites. Versace amenities. Denon headphones. Touch screen larger than virgin and ba. Touch handset. Very spacious. Very very impressed. I have only just boarded at Chicago bound for Chisinau via Istanbul so hopefully rest of flight will be just as impressive.

    • aviosnewbie says:

Is Turkish an Amex partner and how easy is it to get business class seats?

      • Paul says:

I find it pretty easy.. I book through lufthansa miles and more as they are star alliance and I have a load of lufty miles. I expect they are Amex partner too but not sure.

      • Rob says:

        1 – no
        2 – no idea

      • Redeyedonkey says:

No but they’re one of the few currently that show proper availability through LifeMiles which you can often (random sales throughout the year) buy points for. I used to love LIfeMiles pre pandemic but it seems to be a bit lame now other than being able to book Turkish and some random short haul European flights in Biz like BHX to MUC etc…
