We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

After finally getting through to BA giving all details we get cut off it’s beyond annoying.
Is my best plan of action cancel my avois reward flights on line get a voucher then send voucher code by email to BA holidays to use to pay towards my holiday?

    • Anna says:

Hiya, hope all well? I haven’t seen all your comments so may have missed something here.
I don’t know if it’s possible to use a cancelled avios voucher to do that, mine were all cash FTVs from cancelled holidays which I got applied to new avios bookings by sending them the new booking ref. I think there might be issues splitting an avios plus cash voucher.

      • Spurs drive me mad says:

Hi Anna, yes all good been renovating my house well not me personally the builders but it’s so time consuming! Think I’m going to have to call again get cash refund and points back and go from there. It’s ridiculous not being able to get through to speak to someone on phone. Not going till January and already stressing over what is the right test to take etc. Hope you are enjoying retirement.

        • Anna says:

Lol well it’s not been exactly the retirement I planned so far but am luckier than many so can’t complain. Tell us all about your travels, no big trips planned for us till well into next year!

          • Spurs drive me mad says:

Only got Dubai planned for January. Have got cruise booked in July but that was back up incase Dubai got cancelled again, I’ll be cancelling club class Miami flights soon I’ll post when I do it as 3 seats school holiday time might be of use for someone. Still have big trip to Japan booked and paid for March 2023 but not sure my body is going to be up to doing such a big long trip we shall see fingers x

          • Mike says:

Mid 2022 will be retirement for me – roll on 55 !! On the first of 7 weeks resettlement leave to ease the transition back into society – proving quite easy so far !

          • Anna says:

Mike it’s very easy indeed to make the transition!

    • ChrisC says:

You can only use a cash voucher for a BA holidays.

Anything containing things like avios or a 2-4-1 can’t be used.

  • Jack says:

I posted on here regarding cancelled avios flights to Sydney that BA were refusing to move out of the validity period. Contacted BA legal given I had won at MCOL before on a similar issue. Happy to report they’ve now agreed to move the flights as I requested (in line with my EC261 rights). So persistence paid off – now just need Australia to open up!

    • Lady London says:

Well done. Sad that BA Legal has had to be contacted for BA to agree that your EU261 rights to choose to reroute your travel to a later date convenient to yourself, override their desired limitation of x time from original ticketing, last change/reissue, 14 days, 355 days, last outgoing date, or whatever BA agents have been told to say is the [illegal] limitation on your rebooking dates this week.

      • Lady London says:

…these rights you have only in the case BA cancelled a flight you had booked, not you just wishing to change…

        • meta says:

That’s a great result. We need more and more people going via BA Legal and hopefully it will trickle down at some point.

    • Umba says:

That’s a good result. Chuffed for you. How long after you contacted them did it take BA legal to agree to your request?

  • Reney says:

I can’t remember who I promised to update. My Tesco 25 wow points have tracked, will be pending for another 15 days.

    • BlueHorizonUK says:

How long did it take to track please?

      • Nectar Collector says:

Mine tracked today for spend on Monday. Notice that the offer now says it’s ending at midnight…….sure it was originally running till end of tomorrow.

  • FlightDoctor says:

Anyone else having a nightmare submitting copies of their passport and BAEC card to ITA for the status match. I have tried on the Volare website link and it just freezes when I click “send” and I have also tried mailing them but they keep coming back to me (3 times now) saying there is a problem with the documents but not saying exactly what. I have been using a photo taken on my iPhone for the passport and a screen grab of the BAEC card from the BA app. The “takes one minute” comment in the original HFP article has not been the case for me and getting close to giving up!

    • BlueHorizonUK says:

I kept getting the problem email from them and then realised that the PDF of my driving license was out of date so took new photo and sent off and was processed.

    • Danny says:

You can download a PDF copy of your BAEC card from the website and use that instead.

  • BlueHorizonUK says:

I have 2 companion vouchers (old type) with 1 of them expiring in June next year.

If I make a cheap booking and then get a FTV can I then combine with the second voucher for 4 passengers when I am ready to book for 2023 or do I need to use them both now and convert to a FTV?

    Thank You

    • Anna says:

In either case you’ll have to call to use the voucher so there’s no reason BA can’t book either option for you. You always run the risk of 4 award seats not being available, so you may want to keep the 241s separate and use them for different trips.

    • EvilGazebo says:

I wanted to do exactly this as I have an Avios FTV including a 241 and a separate 241.

BAEC told me no when I asked. Can’t even do it as two separate bookings as I have to travel on both 🙄

I did only ask one agent mind because, given the wait times these days, the old rules of just HUACA are less fun

  • BuildBackBetter says:

Datapoint: Amex gold – annual fee charged on 26th Oct. Anniversary spend bonus credited on 10th Nov.

  • Sloth says:

Anyone have any issues/experience of putting their BT account significantly into credit, say 1k? Not looking to withdraw it as monthly bill is around £75 and looking to hit credit card sub. Thanks

    • Harrier25 says:

You’ll be fine. They will just chip away at the credit every month for as long as it lasts.

      • Sloth says:

Thanks, my account has been in credit by around £100 for last few months with no issues just wasn’t sure if they wouldn’t be so keen at 1k….

    • Benilyn says:

Patrick Drahi might dividend out your cash….

  • Andy D says:

Did it say how and when the cash back would be credited? I have not had the letter OR this delicious sounding email. But I had email marketing switched off, oops. I’m trying to evaluate whether to switch spending from my VS MC this winter 🙂
