We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone have any issues with points from last creation statement not posting onto IHG account ?

    • Anna says:

Have you been living under a rock?! If so, scan the last couple of weeks chats 🤣

    • StevieKicks says:

Yes, lots of people have been told they won’t be transferring the points as the accounts are ‘not in good order’

      • FFoxSake says:

Strange that they are still transferring my legacy Marriott card points though, despite getting “the letter”.
Maybe IHG holders can use that info as extra ammo when they claim for withheld points.

      • Harrier25 says:

“Their accounts are not in good order”? Where did you read that, Stevie?

    • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Well same here but not holding my breath- never received the 3x points bonus promised earlier this year & I haven’t had my card closed so no reason I can see that they didn’t honour that promotion … Creation are just a shambles of a company!

  • VinZ says:

    Hello all
Just need some help navigating the Plat Amex insurance. Do I need to buy travel on the card to be eligible for insurance cover? Do you know?

It doesn’t look like there’s an exclusion on the policy as clearly marked on the BAPP insurance terms.

    Thank you

    • Yorkieflyer says:

You need to use an Amex card in your name to be covered for all the insurance elements unless a supplier doesn’t take Amex.
As with any insurance you must read the terms carefully to ensure it fits your needs

    • bsuije says:

      Not strictly speaking true.

For the car rental insurance, you can pay with any card and still be covered.

With the rest, I agree with Yorkieflyer, although I think I’m right in saying in can be any Amex card (i.e. not necessarily just the Plat).

      • Yorkieflyer says:

No I said for all the elements to be covered, meaning everything. Some items eg health and as you say car hire are ok with paying with another card

  • N says:

Hey guys, any suggestions for cheapest antigen test for USA entry? Seems like it had to be a supervised one

  • Mutley says:

I used Collinson with BA 20% off at LHR just off the Northern perimeter Road. Results came back in 3 hours.

  • Rich says:

Re Morrisons Amex 10% cash back – do I need to buy something else to trigger it with gift vouchers? Thanks!

  • Amy C says:

Got a WTP return leg avios booking next year with my 241 but CW has just become available and I need to grab it. They aren’t letting me through on the phone. There’s no other way to get through is there to do this sort of thing?

  • Aston100 says:

Someone here (was it you Mutley?) was talking about getting an Amex Platinum Dollar ICC
Wondering how the application is going. I hear it takes a few weeks to get it processed?

    • Benilyn says:

FWIW I applied in June, it took more than 3-4 weeks and still no card so just cancelled. Not sure if lead times have approved since

      • Aston100 says:

Thanks Benilyn. I was wanting to get the timing just right, so I have it in time for my trip to the US at Xmas. Don’t want to be holding on to it longer than I need to, so I can get as much pro rata refund as possible on the annual fee once I’m back.

    • AY says:

I recently applied for the euro version, although I got an email saying they can take up to 14 days to request more information. They just emailed after 4 asking my job title and then approved after another day. Card recieved within 2 days of that.

  • VickyTM says:

Further to my earlier message about hotels in Miami – any thoughts on the IC Miami?

    • ianM says:

I’ve got a AMB two night stay there booked for end of month, it looks good. Prices in Miami are mental. Staying at 2 Kimptons as well to use up free night certificates.

    • Richie says:

I don’t like the pool area pics.

    • Steve-B says:

Hotel is fine and location is reasonably central assuming you are happy to stay in Downtown. AMB got me an upgrade to exec floor with longe access. Rooms are reasonably spacious with nice views over the bay if you get the right side. Lounge was ok, nothing spectacular but fine for a few drinks in the evening and breakfast in the morning, wasn’t hugely busy either. Stayed in 2019 so things may have changed of course. Would be happy to stay again.

    • xcalx says:

It’s the worst IC I have ever stayed in, this was 15 years ago and no status. The door looked like it had been kicked in and repaired numerous times. Doral IC much nicer but not much nearby.
