We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Still no Morrisons credit on Amex for a transaction on 31/10. A pain as I want to cancel the card. Anyone had it credit “organically” having taken longer than 11 days, or must I enter the maelstrom of Amex support?

    • Toby says:

Might took weeks last time round

    • wollhouse says:

yep, 28 oct and still nothing

      • Andy says:

I had one on the 27th and the 3rd November. 3rd posted fine, the 27th still hasn’t…Amex chat said they’d manually processed so it would show up on my account in 24-48 hours although we’re a bit past that yet.
I wonder if it’s because they changed the date of the offer midway through so it matched the expiry date and it’s skewed things?

    • cabal of rabid baboons says:

I’m waiting for the 26th Crafty so don’t be queue jumping?

  • Dan says:

Apologies in advance but another testing query… Early Jan I’m taking a couple of days in Miami before a week in Nassau then another day in Miami before coming home. US and UK require an antigen test 3 days prior to departure and Bahamas antigen 5 days prior. I’m assuming I can use one test for both the first US entry and entry to the Bahamas and then one test for re-entry to US and back to the UK? Does that sound right?

    • Anna says:

Sorry if I’ve read your post wrong. But for your return to the UK you don’t need a pre-departure test need to take a test, you need to buy the day 2 test and put the code on your PLF for the UK, then take the test by day 2 of your arrival.

      • Anna says:

Apologies, fingers not working! No pre-departure test for returning to the UK, what you need is a day 2 test as you need a code for the UK PLF. You’re then supposed to take the test when you get home.

  • Rui N. says:

Did you get the letter or not? Because if you did that would be quite funny (but wouldn’t surprise anyone!).

    • elguiri says:

Nope, no letter for me so far. Awaiting my next free night cert in Feb (reached target after 3 months). Points still posting through to IHG fine too. So now just have to decide whether 0.5% on top of points is worth risking hitting targets on other cards…

      • Rui N. says:

        You’re no fun then. 😀

        • elguiri says:

I did receive a letter from car finance company yesterday asking me to contact the customer services manager after a couple of CC payments, which got me worried…
Luckily it was just to check how i wanted to use the payments against the debt.

  • M says:

    Hi all
Quick question. I have two business class seats booked with Avios on a companion voucher from LHR to BWI in December to visit my parents, as all outbound Dulles flights had no availability in Biz class, and still don’t (I’ve been checking just in case we can switch). In the case that the BWI flight is cancelled (they seem to be pushing back the date of re-launching the route), what happens? There is definitely no reward availability in Biz (or economy) on the IAD flight the day we are flying. Any hope? Will they just cancel the flight and say sorry, re-book yourselves with cash?!

    • Anna says:

I answered this the other day. If your BWI flight is cancelled, BA has to re-route you, so there should be no problem with moving you to the IAD flight as they will prefer to put you on another BA flight to using another carrier.

      • Anna says:

There doesn’t have to be avios availbiility on the alternative flight, so don’t worry about that.

        • M says:

Oh yay, this is what I was wondering, thank you. I did see your comment the other day (thank you) but I realize I’d forgotten to say it was a Rewards flight. Thank you!

          • Anna says:

If BA does cancel your BWI flight, and you can’t change to IAD online, do some research on your EU291 re-routing rights (discussed here daily), check if cash seats are available for IAD on your day of travel (if there are any seats available at all, they have to offer you them), and call BA and tell them you want them to move you to the IAD flight as it’s well within the 300 mile distance from BWI that their own policy dictates for changes. DO NOT let them tell you you are not entitled to this and DO NOT accept a refund. Come back to this site if they refuse to grant your request and ask for further advice.

Hopefully it will all be ok though. I bet Virginia & DC are just gorgeous in December!

  • Alan S says:

Are the countries that are not accepting ‘self-tests’ as proof of no Covid, generally ok with the supervised video tests at home? Or is it generally in person only?

    • WearyTraveller says:

Every country is different. You need to check the requirements of that country on their official government website ideally.
      Some examples:
The US will accept a supervised home test.
The UAE will only accept in person tests and only those that are administered by a professional. That said there have been reports of people getting into the country if the certificate doesn’t mention that the test has been self administered.

      • Alan S says:

Yeah, it becomes a little trickier when the country in question just says “Any kind of self-tests are not accepted.”.

Might be safe to assume that video or not, it won’t be good enough unless you travel to a place to have it carried out.

        • Blenz101 says:

Well I’m that case it’s very clear. A supervised test is still a self test. You need to have it properly administered in person.

          • Spurs drive me mad says:

This is for Dubai I’ve been reading the replies to this question all day, just to confirm I need to physically go to a test place say Boots and get a PCR test done 72 hours before my flight departs?
            Thanks.

          • Blenz101 says:

For Dubai the rule is “no home testing kits”. People have used supervised tests and been ok.

You risk is the check in agent spotting something on your certificate if it explicitly states it something about being self administered / home etc. Nobody in Dubai will check or care.

          • Spurs drive me mad says:

Thanks blenz we will go to Boots or where ever locally they do them. I’ve not waited 2 years for a holiday to miss out over the wrong test. Thanks for your help.

  • Blenz101 says:

As a one off not a deal breaker. Will show on his credit report for 6 years.

If it was a one off had you asked at the time you would likely have got the charge reversed by pleading stupidity.

  • The Urbanite says:

Ask them nicely to remove the marker if they have done that – don’t want that on a report for 6 years.

    • Jody says:

Are they likely to do that?

Definitely a one off, and he was kicking himself when he realised.

      • Blenz101 says:

They won’t remove the marker. More chance of the fee back.

Your husband can sign up to one of the free credit reports and you will see the missed payment once they send their monthly reporting over.

        • Aston100 says:

          This.
Happened to me once, as I forgot to setup a direct debit!
Fee refunded, but the marker will stay.
Hasn’t affected me in any way as far as I can tell.

  • Rash says:

Hi, any data points/experience on how long the spend 200 get 50 off Amex Travel offer takes to credit? Thanks
