We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

somebody mentioned on here the other day about PCR tests and Dubai – can anybody clarify? Currently, is an Expresstest/Collinson 3 hour PCR test fine for entry in Dubai? Can’t see why it wouldn’t be, isn’t it just a regular PCR test that has been prioritised for quick turn around?

    • Blenz101 says:

      Correct.

    • Tom says:

Unable to answer, but also keen to see any responses from those in the know!

    • Rich says:

The key thing is that it needs to be a RT-PCR test and they have to be done in person via a clinic. Others say you can chance the at home PCR version – fine if you are content to take the risk but I like resting easy.

Datapoint – BA holidays emailed me back to confirm eVoucher applied to my holiday . Interestingly the email also said my deposit would be returned to my cc and the voucher used for the whole amount .

    • FFoxSake says:

Interesting. How long did it take them to apply the voucher after you sent the email?

    • Spurs drive me mad says:

Is that a voucher from cancelled flight they applied to your holiday booking? Did you email them to do this? Thanks.

  • Tiger says:

I have a flight booked with BA companion voucher for which outbound has been flown. I tried to move the inbound beyond a year of the outbound without any luck on MMB as well as on phone with BA.

Is it possible to cancel the inbound and convert it into a voucher, and then use the voucher to move the flights to the date I want, which is more than a year after the outbound? The date has enough award availability so that’s not an issue.

    • Rob says:

Historically you cannot cancel a return portion once the outbound is flown. That said I know some people during covid have had success getting a voucher this way. (Not a very helpful response but …..)

Hilton: Have stayed at two different Hiltons this week:
DT Deptford Bridge and DT Docklands

After years of no upgrades, I was upgraded before I checked in at Deptford and upgraded at the desk last night at Docklands to a thames view and twin queen beds. This may have been just good luck, but it bodes well for the auto upgrades next week

Has anyone been to Thailand and had experience of RT PCR tests, were they done at the airport and how did you pay etc trying to find out more information but no luck so far.

    • Allan says:

Also interested to hear some first hand reports of this.

    • Talay says:

Yes, I have done this multiple times.

We use Dr Donna via http://www.medconsultasia.com and on LINE app also. There is a Facebook page as well.

Clinic is just off Sukhumvit Road in central Bangkok. We have had same day service and all good from a print out / email point of view.

I am unaware of any PCT testing at the airport as it requires time and a lab.

    • Dave says:

If going to Bangkok for the Test and Go it has to be done via the hotel booking. So it’ll be at a hospital or hotel car park, not the airport (for now anyway)

  • Rich says:

Anything out there at the moment for an Airbnb spend? About to spend £2.5k, so anything would be nice.

  • Pete M says:

Also – thank you TJ, stacking them saved me £100 off a massage gun (assuming it all works!)

  • Buxton says:

Wondered if anyone could share what they’d do in my position, gained my BAPP voucher recently, debating whether cancelling and going for Gold or Plat as I only use the avios currently for nectar and uncertain whether BA will be the carrier of choice in the future.

Or is it wiser to hold mix of Amex to make best use?

    • Rob says:

In your case it makes FAR more sense to hold Amex points – you have the choice of sending them to Avios but if not there are many other options (albeit Avios to Nectar remains one of the best).

BAPP blocks you from the Gold bonus so you should get Platinum (you do get the bonus) and then downgrade to Gold once you’ve triggered it. Pro-rata fee refund given.

      • Buxton says:

Thanks for the advice Rob! I did hold a Gold less than two years ago so unsure if that would qualify me for the bonus?
