We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

And the wonderful topic of Creation, does anyone have the messaging facility in their browser? I sent them a message a few days ago about my points not transferring. Now it’s blank. Edge and Firefox on Windows. Can’t see any messages. I can send a message via the iPhone app which I’ve done again asking.

  • Andy says:

What happens if you make a Amex FHR pre-paid booking and then cancel the card before your stay? Since it’s all pre-paid I don’t see why there would be any issues?

    • Sandgrounder says:

You could still show it to them if they asked, just say you want to use a different card for your check in deposit.

  • berneslai says:

I’m sure this will have been asked before but are we expecting any deals on Black Friday or is it just the same reductions rehashed? I’m looking at a few flights that are at an acceptable price now but obviously any reductions are gratefully received.

    • Andrew says:

The latter – airlines are like sofa companies these days, always on sale. So yes there will be deals under the banner of BF but probably not overly different to what you would get anyway during a sale. Difference is that everyone is doing a sale at the same time, so you can shop around within the sales, which might be helpful.

    • Rob says:

We’ve had nothing through from anyone so far. May be quieter than you think.

      • Sam G says:

I’ve seen a couple of things – NH has an 11.11 “singles day” sale and CitizenM are promising 30% off for BF.

But the restrictions by Austria & Denmark (not affecting UK so far…) and possible similar maneuvers or local restrictions over winter mean I am keeping any upcoming hotel plans on flexible rates & Avios bookings/cheap Easyjet bookings so any non-refundable sale deals are not of interest!

    Birthday gift.

VS just gave me 2000 points for my birthday.

Not earth shattering but a nice gesture.

I have a BA holiday final payment due on the 14th Nov and I have a BA Holiday booking for next summer that I want to cancel and use the deposit amount towards the final payment on the 14th. Can it all be done on the phone or do I need to do the online cancellation and hope the FTV arrives quickly? Searching online I found some saying it could take a week to get the FTV.

    • Scott says:

I got my last FTV within 2-3hrs after filling in the online form. (An email saying that when I book another holiday, reply to the email so that they can apply the FTV.)

    • jj says:

I did something very similar in one conversation by the online chat facility a few weeks ago. Easier than phoning of you are already at a computer.

      • Whisper says:

Online chat idea sounds good – had a look but cannot see where it is. Could you give me a pointer please (sorry if I am being stupid and not seeing something)?

        • Whisper says:

Found the button thanks – there were instructions on Flyer Talk

          • Whisper says:

            I got :
Unfortunately, there are no agents available at the moment. Please try again during our business hours.
            BA Chatbot

            It’s 1034GMT on a Thursday???

      • Whisper says:

I eventually got through on chat but the agent said that I cannot apply an FTV to an existing holiday booking. 🙁

        • jj says:

That’s very strange. I had two NY trips booked, one before the US reopening and one after; the agent cancelled my earlier trip applied the deposit to my later trip.

I would be inclined to try again to see if you get the same answer from a different agent.

Have an offer buy £100 get £25 back with BA Wine Flyer on BAPP. Bought from Wine Flyer website today, but the transaction subsequently showed as “Laithwaite’s Wine.” It is unclear if the Amex Wine Flyer offer will be valid since I bought from Laithwaites according to the statement. Anyone bought from BA Wine Flyer and had it show up as “BA Wine Flyer” on Amex statement? or it always shows as Laithwaite’s?

Ps also have Laithwaites offer on Amex Plat – and that’s why I am thinking the two stores’ offers unlikely to be interchangeable albeit belonging to same owner.

    • Alan says:

Always comes up as Laithwaite’s Wine on the statement but never an issue with crediting as long as you went through BA Wine Flyer site.

      • stevenhp1987 says:

+1 Just a white labels Laithwaites Wine site.

My regular Laithwaites deliveries (when they have offers like this! Had a box delivered last week!) have BA Wine Flyer stickers on them, and I accrue Avios, because I once used them via BA Wine Flyer.

  • Aliks says:

Data point on the BA Amex Accelerating Business Card.

A few days ago we were talking about the non-appearance of the 60k welcome bonus. Well I got my latest statement this morning and it showed the 60k being swept across to my BA Exec account.

The 60k bonus wasn’t showing on the Amex account yesterday, so it looks like Amex really do notify BA that the welcome bonus has been achieved so that BA can credit it directly to the BA Exec account.

I’m about to book an LHR->MAN return using a 241 that’s about to expire, with the plan to cancel the trip tomorrow in order to extend the voucher for a future trip. I have a few questions that hopefully those more experienced than I can help with before I proceed.

    1. Is this still a valid option?
    2. Are FTV still valid until Sept 2023, effectively giving me over a year to subsequently redeem the 241?
    3. Am I OK to book in economy for LHR->MAN given in the future I would want to redeem for Club World, or do I need to book Business for the Manchester trip?

    Thanks in advance!
