We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does the £100 back when spend £400 at Amex Travel count for cumulative spend?

    My flight comes to £398.49…

If so, any suggestions on what else I can buy through it for cheap to hit the target?

    Cheers

  • Andrew M says:

I had an interesting shopping experience on one if the airline’s shopping portals recently- I won’t say which one!
I went on to the portal , clicked onto a high street jeweller’s website and identified the wristwatch that i wanted at £1,030 . I then Googled the watch to see if it was cheaper elsewhere and one of the results came up with a price of £710 for the same watch from the very same retailer. So i paid £710 and the bizarre thing is that i have been credited with 3500 miles even though I didn’t buy the watch via the airline’s website .

    • N says:

I’ve had this before with other retailers. I think they push the lower prices to Google Shopping so they stand out

    • Rob says:

Nothing bizarre at all. A 7-30 day cookie was placed on your PC from the first visit.

    • BuildBackBetter says:

The avios will be withdrawn later.

      • swifty says:

The avios are always withdrawn later. Screen shot and argue but they always win. Pointless game 😝

  • Grimz says:

What I am struggling to understand with the USA testing rules is that you don’t need to take any test before you board your flight home? You could catch Covid over there and then go on a plane and pass Covid to the other passengers before taking a LFT on day 2 when you get home. That makes no sense to me!!

    • Rui N. says:

Those are the rules for everywhere, not just the US. This removes the problem of having the risk to be stuck somewhere abroad for 2 weeks – although, as you say, it’s at the expense of someone perhaps being infected onboard the aircraft.

    • Scott says:

Same principle as doing a PCR test on Tuesday at 9am, getting a negative result same or next day, but being exposed to Covid as you leave the test site. Therefore when you fly on the Friday, you’re now potentially positive.
The problem is that you would need to test constantly and even then, hope the results were accurate.

Nothing stopping you from taking a PCR or lateral flow test daily, or before you depart.

      • Rich says:

Very different though. If you’re PCR negative on Tuesday, the chance of your being positive by Friday *and* infectious is very very low.

  • Ros says:

Still waiting on our Thailand Pass QR code, fly out on Sunday, getting extremely anxious about it now. Anyone else with similar issues?

    • Dave says:

When did you apply? You should be able to track your application as of today but i’ve seen people say they emailed support@tp.consular.go.th and it’s been sorted within a few hours

      • Ros says:

really! I submitted last Saturday and then I emailed them on Sunday and again today with no response! No access code to track my application when I submitted, but I have now submitted another application, thanks!

        • Diydegsy says:

Hi Ros I submitted mine last week and also my husbands, mine was rejected but my husband got his QR code so don’t know how that worked but I have reapplied. It took 5 days in total. What have you done re your RT PCR test for when you arrive?

    • Clive says:

You can call them and they are very helpful. We have just had ours approved.

  • Venturelog says:

EasyJet query on their flight protection promise. Not sure if anyone has experience with EasyJet on this?

    https://www.easyjet.com/en/pledge

I want to change a flight booked for end of November. Am I able to change this to a flight beyond 31 Dec 2021 for free (+fare difference)
The wording isn’t clear to me if it’s for bookings before 31 December or flights before 31 December.
Also is the voucher option available for any reason or only travel ban\covid lockdown?

    • Lee G says:

We changed flight to August ’22 maybe a couple of months ago and that went through fine with no change fee.

When you make the changes you are told of the difference in fare so you won’t be hit with anything unexpected.

    • Zara says:

You can even make a one way change or only select passengers. We currently have one flight in feb and the other leg in May. Once we know our next holiday we will probably use the other leg (as another airline was cheaper for the return leg on this occasion)

      • Venturelog says:

Yes I’m in a similar dilemma where alternative airline is working out cheaper, so want to push to use this next year.
        Thanks for your replies

    • bsuije says:

My reading of the pledge is that you can make a change for free before 31 Dec 2021, because it says that you can change to any flight currently on sale. I expect that easyJet, like most other airlines, is selling flights nearly a year in advance.

  • Jody says:

Mentioned the other day that my email for spending the £5k to get 10000 MR points arrived on Tuesday (I had completed the spend on Sunday). Points are now safely in my account, just in time for them to be automatically sent over to BA tomorrow. They are dated as arriving yesterday, but they definitely weren’t there when I checked yesterday morning.

Anyway, great timing for me, as it means I can cancel my BA card a month earlier than anticipated.

    • Yorkieflyer says:

Still nothing, points or email for Mrs Yorkieflyer….10 days and counting. I guess she could call them, but I reckon she’d probably just get the wait 90 days spiel ?

    • N says:

Only slightly related, but does anyone know how long it takes for the pro-rata refund for cancelling the card to post and where it should be visible?

      • QFFlyer says:

Within a day or so and it’ll (should) just show up as a transaction on your account, same as if you got a refund from a retailer.

  • Sandgrounder says:

    One for the BA experts:
When I price up a PE return MAN-LHR-DXB-LHR-MAN using cash and upgrade, the BA site shows me the MAN-LHR legs in Club. When I try and book a PE cash fare or plus car/hotel, it prices up the domestics in economy.
I would like to book a BA holiday with the domestics in club to get the double TPs and therefore Silver in one go. Is there any way to get the site to offer this, or do I need to call?

    • Sam G says:

I was trying to look at this in ITA Matrix but I can’t get it to show anything sensible. From what I know this might not be particularly cost effective as you’d need a MAN-LHR-MAN CE ticket combined with a LHR-DXB-LHR fare so you get the through ticket protection/bags checked through. But you’d need to call to book this anyway so can check with them and see what is possible

    • Anna says:

You might have to call – there are issues booking BA holidays in mixed cabins, it’s very frustrating!

      • Sandgrounder says:

Yep, I thought a call would be required but I was hoping I’d missed something!

  • BH says:

I’ll see if I can get this in the right place this time!
Left a comment here https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2021/11/08/save-30-on-seatspy-first-class-membership/ yesterday about being unable to sign-up to the discounted seatspy offer. Has anyone had any luck with this? I am an existing member, but I can’t get any new email address to be recognised: it says it’s linked to an existing membership – even with newly minted Apple iCloud ‘Hide my email’ address.

    • Rob says:

Will send you the boss’s email, he will fix it.

      • Whiskerxx says:

If you send me the boss’s email at Creation, will he fix sending my outstanding October IHG points to my account?

        • QFFlyer says:

I picture the boss at Creation being more a mafia or cartel boss, or at the very best, one of the main characters you have to kill in a video game, kind of boss, rather than a business executive kind of boss.
