The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 11th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/11/the-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-11th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    Curve cash withdrawal:
Not taken any money out since 2018. Can I still take £200 / month a fee free? And with virgin behind is that fee free there too? Thanks in advance.

    • Harry T says:

      Should be.

    • Mr. AC says:

Still fee free with IHG. Virgin charged me when I tried last year, so I didn’t try again, but it might have been a temporary thing.

      • Bob says:

tried with virgin + cc last month, 2x £100 withdrawal , no charge or interest, went through as purchases

      • Jonathan says:

I’ve done it recently (within the my current statement month), and haven’t been charged anything. I also did it on my free card right before it was cancelled and they didn’t pick anything up.

I hope it counts towards the spend goal of £10K for the voucher, even if it doesn’t, it’s still 3600 / 1800 VP a year

@Rob @Rhys just had a spring 2020 weekend regional flight from City Flyer cancelled and moved from STN to LCY. I suspect they are canning STN as a base for now.

  • Flying Misfit says:

Has anybody had any experiences of getting a PCR test in central London lately? Hopefully at some reasonable cost but appreciate beggars can’t be choosers. Thanks in advance.

I have booked my appointment with a local pharmacy chain, which charges £149 for a next day report, if you provide your sample before 4 pm.

I have used them for Flu Jab services multiple times, and they are very professional about it. This would be the first time I will be doing the RT-PCR test with them for travelling purposes, but a friend recently got tested there and was all praises about how smooth the whole process is.

You will need to call on this no. to book the appointment: 020 7730 8747
The address of the pharmacy is: Greenlight Pharmacy, 6 Lower Belgrave St, Belgravia, London SW1W 0LJ

I will report back on my own personal experience next week.
      Cheers.

We used vivoclinic (London clinic is in Marylebone) £169 and test results emailed 26 hours later (although they only promise results by midnight 2 days after the test)

No issues at all, although the swabbing process really, really tickles your sinuses and adenoids!

  • Amar says:

Has anyone got a data point on how long it takes for the Morrisons statement credit to post?

  • Aston100 says:

I cancelled an Amex PRG card 6 – 7 months ago.
Is it safe to be referred for this card again without incurring the annual fee?

    Thanks.

    I just used this code.

  • James says:

Has anyone got any experience of paying VWFS with a Hilton barclaycard? Any interest charges from barclaycard?

  • Mike says:

With the 10% at WM’s, what is the max gift cards you can reasonable buy either at the checkout or the self-checkout? I was thinking to mix Amazon with Morrisons vouchers (for fuel).
