We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

    Recently got an IHG card, can I ask if there’s a delay in generating statements and transferring points across from the monthly earned to the Hotel side? My counters have been reset to 0 this morning and no points have appeared on the hotel side.

      It takes a maximum 2 day, but usually shows up after a couple of hours.

        Agreed. It used to show immediately when I’d check in the morning but now seems to show around noon.

      I just checked my IHG account. My points have posted, but the statement has not yet generated.

    Sorry for the basic question. Is it possible to book a return – First Class out, Economy back Avios flight with BA? Seems not possible on the website. Would like to try out F in the near future so considering my options!

    Does anybody have any first hand experience using large amounts of Tesco Clubcard points for hotels.com awards.

    The CC website says “The maximum amount of Clubcard vouchers that you can turn into Hotels.com vouchers is £250”.

    It does seem that I can add more than this to my basket. Just wondering if it would fail after I tried to checkout or if I tried to redeem more than a £750 voucher against a booking.

    If you do have first hand experience if this cap is actually imposed I would love to know.

    PS – I know I could split the bookings but each booking includes the cost or the transfer in the Maldives. I would hope I could sort it with the hotel but would rather just do a single booking if possible.

      Be aware that there are issues reported with receiving a refund when using clubcard vouchers on hotel bookings.

        Yes, and Tesco make it very clear on the website that if you require a refund then only the cash element in refundable.

        I’ll be travelling from here in Dubai so I’m confident enough that my plans will go ahead.

      Not directly answering you question, but i have made several separate bookings and had the hotel merge them so staying in the same room. Although of course the risk is that you must check out/in at the end of each booking – its not as if hotels are full of patrons right now.

        Thanks. I would normally be OK with this but as the cost of the transfer is included with each booking (albeit payable at the hotel) I didn’t want to get into a situation where I have 3+ anticipated transfers showing on my bill yet of course will only be requiring 1.

    Just rang Amex asking if they can offer me anything on my BAPP card. Been offered 2.5 avios for every £ spent for 3 months.
