We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Data point – Expresstest drive through at 8.40 yesterday Gatwick results received 21.54 same day.

  • Ant says:

Italy – can I use Chronomics lateral test for entry to Italy? Or does it have to be in person or video?

    • Andy says:

Don’t know about Chronomics and how the certificate is issued, the prenetics one makes no mention that it’s unsupervised so hopefully I will have no issue later today. Will report back if you check late tonight

      • Ant says:

Thanks Andy. Be really interested to hear. As a I have a Prenetics one at home that I was going to use to come back. So can swap them round. Pls keep us updated.

      • AK says:

I used Chrono to enter Italy with no issues.

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

They rarely check when you arrive in Italy as it’s up to the airline to approve your travel documentation is in order. I’ve used various tests to get into Italy before both ones done at a test centre (lateral flow), the spit in a tube test that some hotels do (PCR) and ones posted in (PCR) I’ve had no issues with any.

The only time I was asked to see my test results in Italy happened to be when I had just visited the UK for a day and I used my test from Bologna airport to get back to Bologna. The first thing the officer said was “how did you manage to do a test here when the test centre is after immigration” but then when I said check the date, it was from yesterday then all was fine.

  • Andy says:

Trying to get my head around VeriFLY. We are flying to JFK then onto MIA. Tickets bought through BA but all flights are AA metal.
So would I use the BA locator number or the AA one?
Also do we checkin with BA or AA. Flight leaves from T5

    • Andrew says:

Don’t bother with it, just show checkin staff your documents. Unless you’re flying with hand baggage only which I don’t you are, there’s little point in faffing about with Verifly as it’s a 30 second check of your documents during the standard checkin process at the desk.

    • Definitas says:

BA check in agent for our outbound flight to YYZ had never heard of Verifly. BA agent at ORD looked at the Verifly verification and then asked to see our vaccine certification so the whole Verifly process was a waste of time for us

      • KP says:

I used verifly DXB-LHR and LHR-IAD-LHR and worked a treat. Brief glance at the green tick and that was it, no faffing around with documents and last minute panic.

    • Lyn says:

You would normally check-in with the operating airline – so AA in this case, but I don’t know if they have any special arrangements for T5.

  • roberto says:

Flew back from Vegas into LHR landing yesterday and a reported 65 people were denied boarding for covid test irregularities.

Some that I heard had no tests at all and were unaware of the rule changes, some did tests that were non compliant but others appeared to have everything in order and still not allowed on.

Our Klarity test certificate was scrutinised in great detail (he asked about the address and mentioned he was checking the logo) despite us both having Verifly accepted passes.

For those travelling make sure you have everything watertight and in the words of Sgt. Esterhaus of Hill Street Blues “Be careful out there”…..

Vegas was mobbed BTW, and those cowboys don’t wear masks…

    • YC says:

What happens in these situations? Do you just loose ur ticket and have to repurchase? Or does the airline put u on another flight later that week?

      • Peter says:

What happens when you forget your passport? You don’t have required documents.

    • Spurs drive me mad says:

      I loved that programme.

    • Dave says:

I can’t imagine what Vegas is like right now. Yeesh.

    • BuildBackBetter says:

That’s good news. Should be fining them £5k per person and put them in hotel quarantine.

    • Mirp says:

Thanks for the information. What airline did you fly with?

  • StillintheSun says:

Regarding the Owl. Thanks for the response and to Graham it will mainly be used for conferences and remote presentations using services such as MS Teams, Zoom and Skype. Staring into a screen for hours on end can be quite tiring. I thought that having a camera that locates the speaker automatically and reduced the need to stare at small camera at the top of a screen may be more comfortable?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Surely you’re looking at the screen to see other people / screen sharing. Otherwise just staring into the camera is a little weird of the content is on another screen.

Really don’t see the benefit unless it’s a going in a physical meeting room and some are dialling in remotely.

    • ianM says:

I think it’s a good piece of kit, but at £1000 it’s a damned expensive webcam

    • Graham-Walsh says:

Many cameras now have auto framing, cropping etc that are certified for zoom and Teams etc. Not sure the owl will make any difference. Or think about your meeting space differently and go for a custom
      Design http://meetquarta.com/

  • The Original Nick says:

Has anyone any experience of Aspire lounge open at Edinburgh Airport recently? I’ll be there in the next hour

  • mkcol says:

Covid test to return from Norway to Scotland.

Any idea where on earth (well, Oslo preferably) the test can be done, how to book it & the cost please? I’ve trawled the gov.scot, gov.uk & helsenorge.no pages to no avail, sometimes going back round in an actual loop. Thanks.

    • Sandgrounder says:

Lateral flow is fine, but presuming you are already in Norway and can’t take a test with you, you are looking at about £100 in the airport. Airline codes might bring it down, SAS has an antigen for 645: https://oslohelse.no/sas-choose-location-no/
      What you absolutely SHOULDN’T do:
Get tested using local or workplace resources to be sure you are safe to fly.
Get someone in the UK to obtain a Randox fit to fly test for c.£20
Said person installs the Randox on their phone. Sets up account using your email address.
Said person adds free VPN and chooses Norway.
Said person adds buffer to LF kit and uploads picture of negative result to Randox app.
Fit to fly certificate instantly delivered to your email.
DO NOT do any of this. It’s just not right. I just like the community to be aware it’s happening so we can all stop such practices.

      • TOBIAS L says:

Excellent comment. Please keep up the good work!

      • mkcol says:

It’s actually for my 76 year old mother going to my brother’s for Xmas & NY.
Due to the person involved I absolutely will not do any of those things you were warning me not to do – life’s confusing enough for them as it is!

  • bafan says:

I made a transaction that Amazon deemed as suspicious and locked my account (I purchased a gift card using my balance). Managed to unlock my account but the balance hasn’t been restored. They just keep telling me to wait for 2-3 days but now it’s been 2 weeks. Any ideas on what I can do?

FWIW this is why usually I don’t hold large gift balances – I just had a SUB to hit on this occasion.

    • The Streets says:

Had this issue last year when I tried to top up my account with £500. It took A LOT of phone calls and at one stage they kept emailing me to say my account had been closed with the credit inside. There is such a computer says no mentality about these giants, PayPal and eBay included. Managed to get there in the end but never again will I top up with such a ‘large’ amount
