We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Advice please. Trying to book a next day Randox at Airport PCR test but none of the discount codes work that I have tried (BA, AF, FR etc etc) any suggestions?

    • JustLetMeFlyAgain says:

      BritishAirways43 just worked for me

      • Clive says:

Which Browser and was it only for one person? This was for a airport test? Thanks

        • BigSi says:

The codes don’t work for the airport tests. If from Manchester there is a link from website for £60 test. Maybe the other airports also have.

  • David says:

I think we can forget US travel this year with the Lambda variant emerging.

  • Ukgeorge says:

I have a flight booked where the outbound and inbound flight straddle my tier point year. Will the outbound post in one year and the inbound post on the next membership year?

    • Ben W says:

      Yes.

    • Ukgeorge says:

Sorry I meant to say that is with BA.

    • ChrisBCN says:

Yes, but if the inbound tier points would put you up a status level you can phone them and they will manually change it, provided the inbound is within either 10/14 days (I forget which) of the end of your last year.

  • Ukgeorge says:

    Thanks

    • AJA says:

If it helps you can request the flight in the new TP year is credited to the old year if the flight is within 2 weeks of the start of the year. You need to contact BAEC to do so.

  • Mark says:

I have an easyJet flight from Manchester to Tel Aviv next week. Due to entry requirements I won’t be taking the flight. So hoping they will cancel.
    1. How can I see if they are still flying the route, IE have they cancelled similar flights so I can expect them to cancel my flight.
    2. If they do cancel what can I expect. Full refund? Compensation?
    3. If they don’t cancel, can I cancel myself? Will I get a refund/ftv or do I have to change the flight to another booking?
Thanks to anyone who can help

    • BigSi says:

@Mark. They will email you if flight cancelled. Best case is if EasyJet cancel and then you can get a full refund or change flight for any date in the future free of charge. Surprisingly, the route has not been cancelled yet. If flight is not cancelled you can change to another flight but need to pay fare difference, calling them and explaining your banned from flying sometimes results in a free change to any date. No compensation, they will blame COVID.

    • Chas says:

Check to see if you can still buy tickets for the flight. If you can’t there’s a good chance that the flight is cancelled, but they haven’t told you yet as they’re playing a game of chicken with you….

Is lisbon terminal 2 always awful? Its totally full with ppl rammed in together -which is amusing as theres maintain distance posters everywhere – passport gates didnt open til 20 mins before gate was sposed to close (then only had 2 ppl manning it for 2 flights). Then it takes 50 mins and counting to go thru ryanair boarding pass checks and they are taking everyones phones to scroll thru the covid docs ffs. Plane shouldve taken off 15 mins ago, they are still checking ppls docs in the q lol

    • Pete M says:

I am surprised they didn’t just take off and leave half the plane behind, that’s what they do in Berlin…

      • r* says:

I think they probably wouldve but they seem to be struggling to find the plane.

Ppl still in the q to board, but they arent having their documents checked atm due to staff being occupied with previously mentioned missing plane.

Plane shouldve left 50 mins ago now, flight info says ‘boarding’. I think thats a liberal use of the word boarding 🙂

    • Blair says:

That was my experience in June in Terminal 1 with TAP too. I got hollered at by gate staff for expecting (reasonably I thought) that I didn’t need to queue on the economy boarding side to have my docs checked cos the biz class check in desk had done so and marked “Docs ok” on my boarding pass. Well after departure time, the first group of passengers was bussed to a remote stand. Quite some time after, further buses arrived. I got the impression overall that Portugal runs to its own pace of life and one could lose hours trying to fathom it.

Holiday booked to Majorca next weekend and I’m dry testing the info.

    Health check form requirement, ok.

The requirement of test or vaccination status is for countries/are of risk and the UK isn’t on this list?

    http://safetourism.illesbalears.travel/en

Am I reading this right? The other issue have is the risk of being ‘pinged’ from the arrival flight via passenger locator form. The return flight wouldn’t be an issue as of the 16th of Aug and the double jabbed changes.

    • Rob says:

Looks about right. May see you on the plane. Fill in the form and you’re done if vaxxed (unless you have a kid 12-18 as we do ….)

As you say, the ping risk goes away on 16th hopefully.

  • Iain says:

Have Crowne Plaza started including breakfast? Just looking at Aberdeen airport and it says breakfast included for best available???

    • Blair says:

Hmm interesting. CPs usually gift it to me in lieu of lounge access (I usually arrive too late for it to be of use) if I’m leaving early the next day. But not usually something included as standard. IHG rates (of which there are many) usually appear as 2 options per rate: one with breakfast, one without. As an aside the CP Terminal 4 is probably in my top 3 IHG breakfasts ever. They just get so much right that many other airport hotels get wrong.

      • ianM says:

When you go to room selection it appears breakfast is extra, but the front page where hotels are displayed it clearly says breakfast included. A clear misleading statement.

        • Blair says:

Screenshot it then ask the hotel after booking to clarify and produce the screenshot as backup if need be.

          • Iain says:

            I have 🙂
I’m Spire, not that that counts for much, but club Room access would be good alternative, it’s a nice one.

          • Aston100 says:

I tried this with the Kimpton Bangkok to no avail.
They eventually removed the ‘breakfast included’ comment from the hotels results page.

        • xcalx says:

It’s the same with the HI in the village of Tong (Leeds Bradford) Hotel states under the banner “What can you expect at HI Leeds Bradford” Q, Is breakfast included A, YES All guests receive free breakfast. Guests are charged for breakfast including children even though they also say kids eat free.
Note. HI Leeds Bradford is nowhere near LBA.
