Your 2021 Marriott Bonvoy bonus elite nights have posted – check your account

In early January, we outlined Marriott Bonvoy’s plans to help you retain or gain elite status in 2021 despite reduced travelling.

There are two elements to this. One is an interesting new promotion for double points and double elite night credits, which we will cover tomorrow. If you want to register now, you can do so here.

The second part is giving you elite night credits equivalent to 50% of the status you earned in 2020.

These elite nights have now posted if you look at your Marriott Bonvoy account.

Mariott Bonvoy American Express credit card

What should you have received?

Based on your Marriott Bonvoy status for last year, this is what you will have received:

  • Ambassador Elite – 50 elite night credits
  • Titanium Elite – 38 elite night credits
  • Platinum Elite – 25 elite night credits
  • Gold Elite – 13 elite night credits
  • Silver Elite – 5 elite night credits

If you received Gold Elite status because you have an American Express Platinum card, it seems that you will not receive an elite night credit.

For me, as a Platinum Elite member, my account looks like this:

Why do I have 40 elite nights?

As you can see from the screenshot above, I have 40 elite nights.

This is 80% of the nights I need towards Platinum Elite renewal!

I have 40 nights because I have the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card. If you get the Marriott Bonvoy American Express credit card (apply here), you will receive 15 elite night credits. They have been posting within a couple of weeks of application.

It is unlikely that you will qualify for the sign up bonus on the Marriott Amex, as anyone with an existing personal Amex card (or who has had one in the previous 24 months) is disqualified.

However, paying the £75 annual fee for 15 elite night credits is still a very good deal. You also receive 2 Marriott Bonvoy points per £1 spent on the card, or 6 per £1 spent at Marriott Bonvoy hotels. In the rare chance that you stay at a Bonvoy hotel before 31st March, you will receive 10 points per £1 spent.

I will do a full article on new promotion tomorrow. You can register for the new promotion here.

PS. The bonus night credits you have received also seem to count for Lifetime Elite status. Amusingly – since I have always written that I never expected to earn any sort of lifetime status – I am now Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime Silver with 270 elite nights across Marriott and Starwood. Not that Marriott Bonvoy Silver is hugely useful …..

Had my free 38 this morning so Platinum already.

If only Hyatt had a bigger footprint I might have tried for globalist.

    • Pangolin says:

I was planning on going for Globalist also. I found a very cheap Hyatt Place in Dubai where I could get 15 nights for 2600AED (£525) in the second half of February, but that all went out the door when the lockdown situation worsened.

  • Lev441 says:

Interestingly I was on the Platinum status match from mid September – I was platinum up until the end of January – dropped down to gold BUT I received the 25 elite night credits – together with the 15 credit card nights, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get to platinum again!

    • DJ says:

I can see the promotion, but I still don’t see the additional elite nights :/

  • dezbez says:

Hmm, my 5 bonus credits for Silver have not yet posted….

  • S says:

No nights posted for me yet. Also happened to be in lucky situation of being a temporary platinum at end of 2020 due to incomplete status challenge. Fingers crossed for 25 nights.

  • MD says:

Nope, nothing posted for me yet. It’s got the 15 nights for the Amex, zero nights for me being gold last year.

  • JohnT says:

Unfortunately “wasted” my status match as signed up in December – so only one stay! No extra points yet either.

  • Russ says:

Lovely, another 25 nights for free.

Is it worth doing a few more nights to get Titanium back for enhanced earnings going forward?

    • Hanif says:

Try – Courtyard luton Airport / Glasgow Airport

      • Rob says:

Courtyard Heathrow and Courtyard London City Airport are both finished and ready to open as soon as allowed. Not sure how low they will go.

I also think a chunky discount would appear once I explained I wouldn’t actually be in the hotel and so would need no cleaning, no daily $10 elite F&B credit etc.

I know a few readers did this at the Hyatt Place in Hayes for the double elite credits and are now Globalist.

        • paulm says:

The new Moxy in Slough is showing plenty of £40-50 nights over the next few months. Clearly, being allowed to boom in that time is a different matter

          • Rob says:

Yes, just opened looking at my LinkedIn feed. Going to Slough might be a step too far though 🙂

        • Harry T says:

@Rob are you saying that people told Hyatt Place in Hayes they wouldn’t be present for their stay and did a remote mattress run without checking in physically?

    • memesweeper says:

The Delta in MK is rock bottom sometimes.

    • Russ says:

Thanks Rob. Looks like under some circumstances it may be useful to some. Agree, £600 of spend just to hit Titanium isn’t worth it especially at a time when your only real options are UK matress runs.

Then again I was remembering how useful Titanium was for earning extra points to get hard-to-earn travel package miles. I could almost throw away the hotel certificates and just keep the miles and still be in profit. Also it’s still early in the year so I’m expecting more offers to come from the chains as the market opens up. Lots to consider….

  • Ed says:

No nights for me as a gold (earned through Amex Platinum)

    • charles hawkins says:

nowt for me either, I’m gold

      • Russ says:

Perhaps they are posting through the day? Or they are doing them per status band?

    • Rich says:

Nor for me, but perhaps it doesn’t apply if your status was gifted.

From the original email: “This February, we’re depositing into your account 50% of the Elite Night Credits (ENCs) based on your 2020 earned Elite status.”

      Emphasis on ‘earned’.

      • DJ says:

Well, I earned the Gold last year, but still not elite night credit yet. Perhaps it is just getting applied in batches.

      • Andy D says:

No bonus nights for this Amex Plat derived Gold either. Shame. 🙁

    • Dance-Ace-Base says:

Mine came in overnight. Check again.
