The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 1st December

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/12/01/the-hfp-chat-thread-tuesday-1st-december/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does the Amex Amazon offer work with paying marketplace seller fees?

  • Niall says:

Annoyed with Selfridges today. Ordered last Wednesday with their 20% off offer to be combined with the £30 off £100 Amex deal.

Email this afternoon to say the main item ordered has been cancelled as they don’t have in stock. When I called up to cancel the rest of the order they said they can’t cancel as it’s ‘ready to dispatch’, I have to wait till dispatched to cancel.

This takes me below £100 spend with them. Does anyone know if cumulative spend is ok for this one? And/or if vouchers count ok?

    • Nigel W says:

From my experience, my total came to £106 (£96 actual items and £10 for the delivery pass).

Selfridges helpfully charged them as two different times, but I did end up getting the £30 back.

  • Travel Strong says:

Just did my Morrisons voucher trip. They zipped them all through the till after my shopping and then realised only 1 went through. They wrongly insisted I could only have 1 voucher per transaction, but I didn’t feel like arguing so just took the 1.

Halfway home I had a moment of doubt and checked the number on the card vs the receipt – yup, they had left me with an unactivated one and the activated one was back on the shelf 😂

    • DodgyDCF says:

      that is not good?

      • Travel Strong says:

Not good but not a problem. Turned straight around, went back and resolved it. Reclaimed the correct card with the correct last 4 digits. I don’t think the staff had any idea what I was talking about or what was going on at any point though.

  • Rob says:

£10 when you spend £100, it is a flat rate.

  • KBuffett says:

Can anyone suggest a quick and easy booking service for short notice self catering type cottages (mid/high end) in the UK for a short last minute break? Like a hotels dot com type easy experience.

  • FloriGuy says:

Can you feed Barclays with Bendy?

  • FloriGuy says:

Thanks, I am thinking of upgrading my Bendy. The vanilla version has been fine for me so far.

What about Creation to Bendy to Creation?

    • Travel Strong says:

Thats between you and your creator

    • DT says:

If you have all the cards, why not try for yourself? Do a small amount if you’re concerned about interest. This is how everyone else finds out which of their cards works with what.
Though paying a debt you owe to a company by taking out another debt with them seems to be a sure fire way of this gravy train ending real fast.
Test things yourself, don’t talk about it too much, don’t take the piss and we’ll all have a great long future with millions of points. Do the opposite of that and we’ll all have to find a new way to do it and it’ll probably be talked about way less to help prevent it being a short term thing again.

For multiple reasons that’s a terrible idea.
