The HfP chat thread – Saturday 28th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/28/the-hfp-chat-thread-saturday-28th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I had no joy trying to book two one-way Club World seats online with Avios back to London at the 355-day booking window.

On ba.com at 23:50, all previously available flights back from my destination for November — not just 18 November 2021 — had vanished when looking for Avios seats.

At 00:00, the 18 November flight did not appear, as it should have done.

At 00:04, the 18 November flight appeared, but with zero Club World and 4 economy seats. At the same time, all of the other Avios availability on flights earlier in November reappeared.

It looks like someone in BA was able to block out all of November’s award seats for this route to allow them to grab the latest ones at midnight.

Is this what a Japan/USA agent would have done if I’d taken the advice to call up instead? I wouldn’t have thought they had the power to block out multiple flights.

    • TGLoyalty says:

The call centre can hold the seat as soon as it’s released into the system so you never see it online.

Unsure they can block the whole of the month could be coincidental that more inventory was released for the rest of the month.

      • MKB says:

The inventory that reappeared — 2 or 4 economy seats on most flights, and 2 Club seats on one flight only — matched identically what had been there previously.

  • The Urbanite says:

I received the “HSBC Connect” email, was surprised to see that offer there!
