  Hi- probably can’t ‘see the wood for the trees’- but should my tier points extension should have been applied on my Silver BA?
  Tier pints extension year ends 8th Dec 2020- card expiry is 31 Jan 2022
  I need 520 to progress to Gold- but shouldn’t the tier collection year have been extended by 12 months to 2021??

    Status has been extended, collection year has not, you still need to earn your TPs within your usual collection year

  Avis offer of £20 off. It says “only UK domestic”. Will they know if I pre-pay an overseas rental? Will it be billed differently?

    No harm in trying but when you pre-pay all you are really doing is buying a voucher to the value of your rental which is applied at the pick up desk. If the code in the booking fails when they settle the account don’t be surprised if the difference is charged to the card you left a preauthorisation on.

        They would know I think.

        Working it out, prepaying with Hertz fixes my cost at a sterling cost that I pay but Hertz immediately books thatin EUR against the rental cost at the EUR location.

        They must be doing this because if I book a year ahead and the UK pound has dropped 30%, in that year, there is nothing more to pay if I prepaid.

        Avis might be doing all this processing at the back end and not showing it to Amex but I would bet not. It makes more sense to design it so the amount is charged showing a EUR conversion from the get-go fixing it in that foreign account.

        Though I’d be very interested to hear if you try it and do get away with it…. but 90-95% it won’t work.

          Hertz certainly works for foreign rentals when prepaid in GBP, despite what the T&Cs state on the current offer.

    I made 2 Avis bookings recently, one from LCY paid on collection, one from Frankfurt prepaid, neither hit the Avis total, they were about £90 each but I got the £20 Amex offer credit. Had to cancel the Frankfurt booking, got the money refunded and the credit disappeared so it seems like you could book an international pre pay to take advantage

    I prepaid a car rental in GBP pick up in Italy and the offer triggered and I got the £20 back. Just make sure you book from Avis UK website.

  Not quite clear at the moment but it looks like nonessential travel from elsewhere in the UK to Scotland might be prohibited by law from Friday unless the laws are restricted to residents moving in and out of level 3 and 4 areas only. Edinburgh being relaxed to level 2 it seems but with travel restrictions that will not help much.

        North Berwick. Gullane’s clubhouse is currently only open to members that live in East Lothian, those that live in Edinburgh or elsewhere are out of luck.

          Tier 3/4 arent allowed to travel into tier 2 areas unless for work/essential travel.

          Thanks @Lady London, so far so good. They are in their 80s and frail but still living largely independently with some family support. My relatives ofcourse anxious that providiing that support is the weak point.

          You’ll feel very secure with all those Secret Service guys around. My OH had to co-ordinate a visit from a US politician some years ago and I could tell he was itching to don some dark glasses and start talking code into an earpiece 🤣

    Well we can’t travel to Scotland anyway just now – for most of us it’s a bit far for education or exercise! I’m really missing our annual visit.

      I love Scotland. Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities in the world, and the islands and highlands are utterly gorgeous.

        Very fortunate ( compared to so many others) Highland is in Tier 1, well seems like 1 1/2 as we are still not allowed in others houses, whereas other Tier 1 are ( Islands, Shetland, Orkney) . From Friday we get to meet up with 8 folk from 3 households, albeit outside, in restaurants, pubs etc. .

  A quick question on the morrisons / Amex offer. If you buy morrisons gift cards, can you use the self checkouts to buy the branded (ie amazon/ JL) gift cards at a later date or do you need to use the manned checkouts?

    They’ve started to make issues and faces when using the self checkouts lately. Never used to be a problem but they have started to tell you to go to manned checkouts for GC

  I use Xexec which is similar to P@W. They refuse to accept credit cards, probably to save the 0.1% fees (compared to debit cards). Curve can be a bit hit and miss. Have been using Tesco debit card for groceries as I get 4.8 avios. Time to rethink my strategy now.

  Yes, use it all the time for at least three supermarkets. It’s painless.

  For your first transaction, they’ll send you the supermarket gift card.
  The system then remembers this and you can just add credit as you need it. Be aware that credit can take 2-3 working days to appear. They email you when it has been applied to your gift card. You can also apply your Perks credit as part of the transaction.

  I use Revolut to pay.

    The donald russell offers have been one of my favourites of all time – i’ve been introduced to fantastic quality steak to my door, at half the price per kg compared to the best cuts at the supermarket.

    Over 3 purchases, (3 amex £10 off’s combined with three 10% off codes) i’m on track for about 49 meals worth of mostly steak for £103, and thats before the t c b tracks and lands!

    The tv2005 steak selection was a great hfp tipoff but it’s gone now.

    I think i’m hooked now, so will be continually on the lookout for future bargain combo’s.

    (Just got a new gas bottle for daily winter bbq!)
