The HfP chat thread – Friday 9th October

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/10/09/the-hfp-chat-thread-friday-9th-october/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Date point IHG free night cert.
Just received an email from customer services after I sent a complaint saying sorry for the delay in sending the free night certificate out etc all customers should receive it soon

    Very strange

  • MinR says:

Is there any difference between Hyatt Prive rates/benefits and Amex FHR?

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

Not so much on the benefits front. But the cost is usually a lot less via prive

    • Harry T says:

FHR gets you a guaranteed 4pm checkout. Prive gets you a non defined and non guaranteed late checkout (though you could get your travel agent to confirm a late check out). Theoretically Prive should get treated better but mileage will vary. I’ll let you know after my first Prive stay this month (Great Scotland Yard).

  • Maciek says:

Still no luck on my side using Curve on a certain red card – the payment doesn’t even hit Curve. Worldpay playing up again or have reds caught up?

  • GT says:

I had the same a couple of days ago. Voucher valid to 7 April 2023

  • Jill (Kinkell) says:

Travels plans somewhat curtailed for rest of this year. Lamenting our South America Peru and Galapagos trip which we should have been heading on next week for a month. 2 trips in diary for April and June and finalising an open jaw 241 road trip to USA for September. Bagged F out to Denver, but all F seats seem to have disappeared for all cities in USA as from Monday 25 Sept 21. Anyone know why? I should have taken the plunge for the Sunday, as 5 seats were available for our return leg . Serves me right for hesitating! Consolation at this stage is CW is fine for an overnight flight!
Let’s hope everyone’s travel plans can go ahead without too much disruption.

    • ChrisC says:

BA don’t always release F seats the same way they guarentee economy and club

When the avios sale was started 4 days ago the booking window was upto the 25th September 2021 (it’s now the 29th) so they added lots of seats up until the 25th and thought that was enough.

of course they may release more over the comign months so if they do you can always call them up and upgrade.

      • Jonathan says:

The booking window for the Avios sale is travel up to 30th June so you could never get September flights for 50% off.

        • Jill (Kinkell) says:

Aware of that. Wasn’t looking to book the 50% off, although a great deal. We had already earmarked Sept for our trip anyway…better temperatures. If F seats become available, I know I can phone and change. It was annoying that F seats just disappeared…not released, given the abundance up until the 25th.to USA cities, as I’d been keeping an eye on them.
Thanks for your comments ChrisC and Jonathan

          • Matt B says:

Yes i noticed the same last week, I booked for July/Aug to LA/LAS in F and i had the choice of almost any day across 6 weeks. Its all gone now and not impacted by the 50% off deal, just happens I guess.

          • Liz says:

Jill – what route are you doing from Denver. We decided to avoid the USA next year and go for Canada. Booked out to Vancouver late Aug and back via Calgary.

          • Jill (Kinkell) says:

Reply to Liz: Denver through Colorado to New Mexico and across ending up in Phoenix. Fly to Chicago and home from there. I have AA credit from cancelled ( by me) flights and the credit element must be used by 31 Dec 21. No chance of a cash refund as it was a non refundable booking. So at least we can use it. Decided to take a punt on USA being open.

Hi HfP & fellow readers. Sorry if its an un-educated question but, if i were to book through BA website & credit the following indirect rtn flight:
LON>(connect@Delhi)>Amritsar International, to my QatarPrivilege programme, would i gain Qmiles & Qpoints?
(BA flight to DEL &then Vistara flight to Amritsar)
    Kind regards.

  • Princess says:

hi, reporting something strange, sorry if it has been shared already. My platinum card has been offering 12000 points (when you invite a friends) until a couple of weeks ago when it changed to 18000. I tested and invite my husband and it worked I got 18000.
Is it a special offer? does anyone know?

    • Andrew says:

      Still 12.000 showing for me.

      • Rob says:

Plat Business is still 18k. It is also possible you have a targetted offer – some people got a special BA Amex referral deal recently.

    • Sukes says:

I’ve got 18k referral on Amex Plat personal, have had for a while I think. Says ‘your exclusive offer’ above the referral link in the app.
