The HfP chat thread – Thursday 1st October

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/10/01/the-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-1st-october/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Looks like The Langley are using their current spare time to try & weed out anyone with a 30k redemption. Just received this about my rearranged stay for next March. I had managed to avoid their attempts to get me to cancel & rebook rather than rescheduling in July so obviously trying a different angle now.

“I have been reviewing our future reservations and I have noticed that the reservation does not seem to be settled with points as yet. Would you like us to deduct the points for your reservation now (50,000) or would you prefer to wait until a later time?”

    • Anna says:

Presumably I’ll get one then for my stay which was re-scheduled to the New Year! I wonder what they would do if you emptied your Bonvoy account of points?

      • Anna says:

Though the outstanding balance should only be 15k on my new booking, which is probably still worth it, to be honest!

        • Jonathan says:

They never refunded me the original 35k despite them trying to persuade me cancelling was the best option back in July so as a worst case I owe them 15k. Will give my next move some thought…

Avios booking to Faro was cancelled/moved by BA so i decided to cancel the flight and opt for a full refund. This was over 2 weeks ago and still haven’t received my Avios or the taxes back. How long does the refund normally take?

    • AJA says:

That’s too long. Should have been returned almost instantly. Mine were back in my BAEC account before I got off the phone. I would chase BA.

Very strong rumour that Emirates have now dropped Edinburgh (Not surprised) . Wont be surprised if they drop Newcastle too!

Also did Qatar Drop Birmingham and Cardiff?

Has anyone had any recent experience traveling to Dubai ?
I am due to go next week. I have booked my Covid test to travel out but I am reading conflicting stories about the return flight.
Do I need to get a covid test to return to the U.K. ? On the Emirates web site it says you need one to return to the U.K. …..I can’t find anything on the BA web site saying I need a test for the return trip. I’m flying with BA. I have tried calling BA and You First and both just direct me to the U.K. Government web site that mentions nothing apart from quarantine.
Can anyone have any experience that could clarify for me please?

BIL just travelled home to NZ at short notice, had to get a CV19 test to enter Dubai on route
