The HfP chat thread – Friday 25th September

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/09/25/the-hfp-chat-thread-friday-25th-september/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Switzerland have added the UK to their quarantine list , total 24 days quarantine now at both ends if you want to go.

I saw Ireland have changed their green list, only 4 countries now

    Liechtenstein (which has no airport)
Cyprus, Finland, Latvia (all of which require quarantine for Irish arrivals)

    • Sandgrounder says:

Ireland (and the UK) are in category B for Cyprus, you need to provide a negative result from the previous 72hrs and upload it to receive a ‘flightpass’, and be able to present the original result on arrival. You don’t need to quarantine.

  • Travel Strong says:

Heads up on something I never noticed in the T+C’s until it was too late: AirBnB only allow you 3 cancellations a year before they withhold their cut from your refund.

(the service fee element they charge for the privilege of using the airbnb platform)

Even on fully flexible and fully refundable bookings.
Even when the prior cancellations are under their extenuating circumstances policy for COVID.

The support response I received explaining this sarcastically pointed out they they were “suprised” that as a regular user of their platform I would not know this, and signed off “Nothing to add.”

Time to create a new account then!

    • Harry T says:

That’s a very bizarre and unfair policy.

    • Vit says:

This T&C has been on a while now but agreed that it is a bit unfair considering it is the host who will lose out. I guess they can argue that’s the platform usage fee.

    • Amit says:

I didn’t notice either. I booked in good faith and it said free cancellation. Having cancelled a few other bookings it now says ‘cancel for full refund minus service fee’. They are not willing to make any exceptions. Not sure if travel insurance will cover the hefty 15% cancellation fee

    • AndyGWP says:

Aye – I’ve got done over by this one too this year 🙁

    • Lady London says:

Time to stop using AirBNB then. Even in the good times.

  • Dave says:

Anybody had a phone call from CoT about using curve?

  • S says:

We were planning on travelling to Corfu on Sun 27th Sept to Weds 30th Sept from Glasgow airport. We live and work in England, but booked Glasgow to see some family before we fly. We were then going to spend 1 night in Holiday Inn (as we arrive at 1am) and drive back to England the same day.

I’ve just realised that Scotland have different travel corridor exemptions to England (for example, they have a blanket 14 day quarantine on arrivals from Greece, whereas Corfu is on England’s “green” list) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with filling out the forms and how this would be handled?

I’ve checked the information online and the Scottish details state you must quarantine for 14 days OR whenever you leave Scotland, but do we need to quarantine when back in England (just because we arrived in Glasgow)?

    Any ideas?
