The HfP chat thread – Thursday 3rd September

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/09/03/the-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-3rd-september/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I logged in to my Iberia account and instead of my flights I saw flights for other people including email addresses, phone numbers, cost of tickets and seat reservations.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Should I email the people whose details I can see to let them know?

    • Genghis says:

      I’d just let Iberia know.
When I first got my Creation IHG card, I was able to see another person’s full statement. I kindly let them know.

  • david says:

Has anyone else noticed the unbelievable first availability with in summer 2021 there there 2 first seat virtually every day ! I have checked on seat spy and confirmed on BA.

  • Vin says:

Something I wasn’t aware of but perhaps others are. Lufthansa is giving an opportunity to earn bonus award miles on flights for a monthly fee and also the facility to extend the expiry date of your miles. I was directed to the page after online flight check-in.

Still not received my IHG Reward Night from Creation from March. No response to my formal complaint 8 weeks ago, so time to try the Financial Ombudsman.

    • Anna says:

That’s weird, I got mine pretty much as soon as the end of year statement was generated in July, I was really impressed.

    • Louise K says:

That is strange, mine arrived very early this year – just before the statement with the £99 charge.

If you are on Twitter send IHG Service a DM. I have found them helpful in the past.

    • CB says:

Received my one when it was due but this was around 6 mouths after I hit the £10k spend as the vouchers are issued in the card anniversary.

    • Matt says:

Me neither, despite emailing them and calling on a monthly basis… I’m going to try calling again tomorrow..

Hi, I have for the very first time ever, converted some clubcard vouchers into Avios.
Just submitted the order and got the confirmation email from Tesco.
Anyone know roughly how long before this Avios is available to me in my BAEC please?

Just seen some flights I desperately want to grab but am 30k Avios short right now, hence the clubcard conversion.

    Thanks.

  • Lady London says:

And have Lufthansa retunded people yet?

  • Aston100 says:

    Guys sorry noobie question.
Never booked a reward flight before. Just waiting for clubcard conversion so I can have enough points for the return journey using my companion voucher.
It just occurred to me that I have enough points to book the outbound (in first).
Presumably I can book the return leg when the clubcard conversion happens in the next couple of days.
Do I phone a specific number (what number?) and ask BA to book my return flights and combine them etc
And is there a penalty fee / admin charge for this since both legs are currently available to book online right now?
Again, apologies, this is all new to me!

    • TGLoyalty says:

You could book the return then combine the two, guess you have a 2-4-1 voucher otherwise no need to combine.

if you have a first booking (outbound) then you can call youfirst to add the return, they pick up pretty quickly so no issues there.

However, be careful as they will no longer recalculate the fees so some destinations can end up costing a lot more cash for two one ways than for a return (thinking USA in particular). Not sure if they will give you the return tax cost if you simply add the return over the phone, someone else with more experience of that will probably confirm.

      • Aston100 says:

        Thanks.
Just to be clear, I want to use a companion voucher to book 2 * first outbound, and 2 * club world inbound. Longhaul eastbound trip (I’m sure you’ll sympathise why I am not saying the actual destination at this time).
I am 30k avios short for the complete journey utilising a companion voucher.
As I am scared of losing the flights, I am strongly considering booking the outbound 2 * one way in first, using the companion voucher.
Once the rest of the avios turn up in the next couple of days, I am hoping to phone BA to book the inbound leg in club world, and I hope they will adjust the charges and not penalise me for doing this over the phone.
Is this the right way to do it in my circumstance? and sorry, what is the best number to call to book the return leg? I am not familiar with You First. I’ve never even flown first before let alone booked an avios reward ticket! Yup, proper newbie here!

        Thanks.

  • meta says:

    First, don’t panic. We’ve all been there.😀

Eastbound usually attracts higher surcharges if you first book outbound then add inbound later by phone as TG Loyalty explained. When you phone they won’t recalculate surcharges, you’ll end up paying more.

Suggestion: Book online both outbound (in F on the date you wanted) and inbound (on any date even if not desired) then phone up You First to adjust to the desired date when you get the rest of Avios. You’ll only pay £35 per person change fee which might be less than surcharges. Double check this by doing dummy booking going all the way by selecting flights and to the payment page, but not actually making booking.

You First is a separate phone line for customers travelling in First. Number is 0800 408 7667 and they’ll pick up quicker than the normal BA lines.

    Keep us posted!

    • meta says:

that was a reply to @Aston100 not sure why it ended on the new page.

    • Aston100 says:

      Thanks for that.
Maybe I’m being a bit thick, but I don’t quite understand the suggestion.
I don’t have enough avios to make the return booking. I’m not sure how choosing some other return date right now would allow me to complete my return booking right now. You’ll have to assume I don’t know what I’m doing.
When I price up the total charges for outbound and inbound legs separately, as one ways, the cost is only about £52 more. Hence I’m wondering if I should just go ahead and use my companion voucher right now and use it for just the outbound flights only. In a couple of days when the club card avios arrives, and assuming seats are still available for the inbound, I’ll phone BA and book those over the phone and ask them to combine it all. I guess the risk is I’ll have to pay an admin fee and they won’t refund the additional £52 charges.
Sorry, am quite confused with your suggestion of booking both legs now, when I don’t have sufficient avios

      • meta says:

Yes, you’re right. You would need Avios for both legs. Since it’s only £52 more in charges, I’d do as you say. Book F then call You First to add once you have Avios. You’ll need to pay change fee of £35, but insist you can’t do it online so they should waive it. Although be prepared that they might push back.
