The HfP chat thread – Thursday 3rd September

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/09/03/the-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-3rd-september/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hi question re the BA future travel voucher.

What happens if you decide to cancel a booking made using a future travel voucher from a previously cancelled booking?

Do you get a new voucher? Or will you lose out in this scenario?

    Thanks

    • MadeUpName says:

You can get a new voucher. I did this the other day. I actually wanted to change it again so called up. The agent then said it was £35 each to change. I asked if I could claim another voucher and use that for the booking and not pay £35. She said that’s fine but she couldn’t do that on the phone or waive the fee. So I claimed the voucher online, it arrived in 10 minutes allowing me to call back and re-book without paying the £35 each.

More like aviation industry under attack from government?

    • Optimus Prime says:

It’s a joke. If airlines go bust – tough luck, that’s how capitalism works. But if commercial landlords are at risk because more people are working from home, we have to bully workers to return to office.

      • Vit says:

        Yup. Well said! 👍🏽

      • Lady London says:

But apparently people working for the government (Whitehall pubkic servants I saw in the headlines) are *not* being made to return to their office buildings?

While the rest of us get told to….

      • Harry T says:

Excellent comment, Optimus. Leave home, forget the NHS, save Pret.

    • Andrew says:

The weegie whining and comparing airlines and airports to the coal industry on the Today programme was a bit silly.

There’s very few young people, even in the old pit villages who want to go back to the days of mining coal and burning it for electricity.

Does anyone have any recent experience on how long passport renewals are taking?

And the Virgin court approval latest is ?

    • Rhys says:

From the press release they sent us: “Today, Virgin Atlantic attended an English High Court hearing where the Restructuring Plan was formally sanctioned. A US procedural hearing will follow tomorrow, 3 September, ensuring the Restructuring Plan is recognised in the US, paving the way for completion of the £1.2bn private only, solvent recapitalisation of Virgin Atlantic.”

When I was checking for the 2,000 extra Avios on my BAPP card and supps, when I looked on second card in my name, a banner came up saying that if I achieved Companion voucher by 30th Sep it would be extended by six months.

This has been suggested here before but I now have evidence saved.

Virgin Credit Card Voucher – Confused…!

I’m trying to establish the use by date for my VA voucher (+ card so 2 years) but there are 2 entries on my FC Statement:

23 December 2019 Transaction Date 24 December 2019 Activity Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card – Reward Qualification
    &
10 February 2020 Transaction Date 11 February 2020 Activity You’ve spent £10,000 on your credit card – call to redeem your Reward

I’m fairly sure its the 10th Feb date but can anyone in the know confirm?

    Thanks

    • ChasP says:

you may have gained a voucher – many of us have
      Probably an IT cockup
      will it be honoured ??

      • James says:

As @Chasp mentions I think there is an IT cockpit with Virgin/Virgin Money as I have some how earned my 2020 voucher (free card) in Feb but per VM I still got 9k to spend. So am working on this to see if I get another

Hello. With Qatar’s ‘Hold on to your ticket’, they say “If you have not used your ticket (i.e. you have not flown a single segment of the booked journey/itinerary), your ticket can be kept open and THE VALUE OF the original ticket can be used within 2 years from the original ticket issue date.”

Do they actually mean ‘VALUE of the original ticket’? Or can we use our existing tickets in the future regardless of what the future price is?

If they mean ‘value’, how does this option compare with the ‘Exchange for future travel’ option – the future travel voucher with 10% additional value?

If we choose the voucher, can we use it for two or more separate trips, or does it have to be one single trip?

I’ve asked Qatar via Facebook, but I’m still waiting for an answer.

    • Lady London says:

It means you will still be subject to higher fares when you rebook.

if they offered me at least 50% value uplift I’d consider it. Other than that do anything you can to get your cash back.

      • LukeM says:

Thanks. I need to know what ‘Hold on to your ticket’ really means. We can’t get our cash back because Qatar isn’t cancelling our flights to Taiwan. Taiwan just won’t let tourists in.

        • LukeM says:

The HfP articles suggest we can re-use the existing ticket at whatever future price, not use the value of it. But then, if they do mean ‘value’, it seems odd to offer a different, and better, voucher+10% option.
