  Possibly a very stupid question…but BA (and others) are showing flights to Florida (and other USA LOCATIONS) w immediate availability. Trump has said nobody coming from the UK is allowed, unless they meet very specific criteria and fly into named airports.. But the number of flights going seems way more than would be necessary to accommodate ex pats stuck here and the people who qualify- Is this simply a case of caveat emptor?? Ie we’ll take your money, fly you there and not our problem that you won’t be allowed to enter or is there a loophole I’m missing?? I’d like to visit family this year, if possible but at present I don’t believe I’m able to enter the country?? (Aware i CAN fly in if I’ve spent 14 days in an “acceptable” country first and embark from there) thanks

    BA never stopped flying – in April and May, key routes were operating purely on the basis of cargo – any passengers on top was a bonus

    I’ve got colleagues flying back and forth between here and the States. In some fields there are only so many specialist medics in the world, and not everything can be done on Zoom.

    One of my colleagues got back from the states yesterday. She’s told me she’s learning to love flying again. Empty international terminals, quiet planes, no pestering, even TSA seem happy to see them. Mask on, blanket on, wake up over Ireland.

  Amex Gold charge card.

  Closed this in September last year.

  Yet yesterday I received a £140 “Credit for Card membership fee” on my account. As such i’m now in a minus balance.

  If I recall correctly i received my membership fee refund at the time…

  Any thoughts?

    Sit on it for a month, then ask for it to be moved across to any other Amex card you have, or refunded. Former is better if you value an easy life.

  Interesting report on ITV this morning about what travellers to Spain can expect this summer in terms of social distancing/mask wearing etc. One tourism industry rep pointed out that anyone who breaches the rules can realistically expect to be heavily fined, unlike the “limp” (her word!) response in the UK. Given the scenes on UK beaches this week, I can imagine the Spanish authorities may be raking in the fines over the next few months. (I’m still surprised Brits have been allowed to go back to Spain, given our propensity to cause chaos wherever we go).

    Technically, masks are only mandatory whenever social distancing is not possible. In reality, most people don’t wear a mask.

    What is interesting though, the regions that are going back into lock-down are not coastal regions. If that symbols a trend there, if Spain is lucky, it could mean that the Summer season in the Mediterranean is safe-ish.

      The report showed people being made to don masks when they left the beach, and also having temperature checks and their shoes sprayed with disinfectant before they were allowed to enter restaurants and bars. None of it made me want to visit just now. Maybe next year, hopefully with my new Spanish passport 🤣

  There are some threads on the BA Flyertalk forum about this – a thread each for June, July and August schedules.

  It seemed to be the case that flights were cancelled at the turn of the month for the month after next, for example July’s flights were cancelled around end of May or start of June. However there have been quite a few reports in the last few days of August schedule changes and cancellations.

  BA have just cancelled my direct Avios flights from Edinburgh to Florence and back in the last week of August. Anyone with Cityflyer bookings should double check them!

      I have some leave I need to use by the end of August, so I’ve booked some cheapo LCC fares to Prague and Vienna instead. Thanks for asking. Good news is that BA and Jet2 (who cancelled some flights to Venice) have a good reputation for actually giving refunds.

        In that case I would have gone to Florence anyway and hoped covid might have reduced the even more awful crowds in Venice (even that’s unlikely by end August). You seem to have done OK though.

          @LL problem is, BA are the only airline who fly directly from Edinburgh to Florence so reroute would have been tricky.

          Jet2 seem to have cancelled my weekend flights from MAN to Venice in July because they changed their flying schedule! Outbound now On Thursdays, which doesn’t work for me. No Friday flights to Venice from MAN either. Decided to go to Amsterdam instead. I’ll get a refund in time.

          Got to have a plan B during these turbulent times!

    Yes, just got an email cancelling our inbound AGP-MAN, with a charming message that if I decide to fly from a different airport, BA won’t pay for any extra incurred travel costs!

        Yes, already got a cash refund for the BA holiday element and for the RFS outbound flights 2 of us were on, so I was just waiting for the inbound cancellation. I’d rather be going to the lodge in Northumberland though just now, even with the unpredictable Northern weather!

      In that case I’m sure BA will be happy to give you your EU261 rerouting rights that entitle you to a flight on another airline as near as possible to your booked departure time from your originally booked departure airport.

      Plus your duty of care rights to needed hotel and meals and transport to and from hotel until your replacement flight even uf they cancelled more than 14 days ahead.

      BA are adults and if they cancel a route it is up to them to take into account these passenger rights and their cost to them. Clearly they found it still profitable to cancel so use your rights.

  Anyone with a Monese premium code? I reaaaaaaaaaally want to take advantage of the Amex Plat double points and potentially do some MS on it…
