The new HFP chat thread – Wednesday 6th May

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/05/06/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-6th-may/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

For self employed peeps – No.1 London Bridge into Revolut? Any charges (with or without Curve).

  • Sam says:

Just received an email from VS saying they are launching Cape Town in Nov 2020 and are making preps to fly again, a bit premature! They might not be around by then but suspect they know they will be ok. The Govt bailout will come.

    • Rob says:

Rhys is very happy. He has already pencilled the launch date into the work diary 🙂

  • PJ says:

Hello all, I need a bit of help. I need to travel urgently from any London/SE airport to Malaga to see my parents, my father is in hospital and very sick. I’ve tried various route options to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions. Many thanks.

    • marcw says:

I think your options are via MAD or to MAD and then high speed train

    • marcw says:

But remember, there´s a lockdown in Spain atm, it´s slowly opening up but there´s a lockdown, with limited services available and many freedom restrictions.

    • ChrisA says:

Try Gibraltar then hire a car (if you drive)?
      Either way, best wishes.

    • Baji Nahid says:

Im sorry to hear of the news, wishing your father a swift recovery

  • PJ says:

Thanks everyone – based on your amazing fast responses I have found a flight to Madrid with Iberia and then a train to Malaga. My concern now is whether I will be allowed to enter Spain as a British citizen. I have looked at gov.uk and it says that I have to have evidence of essential travel. Anyone know how this could be proven in the circumstances or whether immigration would even check?

    • marcw says:

That will be very challenging. Call the Embassy/Consulate in Malaga and ask for advice. It won´t be easy, I can tell you know.

  • PJ says:

Thanks Shoestringo but I’m not sure what type of evidence will suffice.

    • Jimbob says:

I’d ask the Consultant’s secretary to email you a letter, assuming your dad is in hospital.
Wishing you and your family the best

  • PJ says:

Great idea Jimbob, I will give that a try. Many thanks everyone – you have been great with all your suggestions.

Does anyone know if BA/AA are cancelling flights in departure date order ? If so, what date are they up to ? Flying EDI-LHR-JFK (JFK flight on AA) on 10th July and wondering when we can expect the “your flight has been cancelled” email.

    Thanks,
    Gav.

    • Gavlar says:

      👍

    • Paul says:

My LHR-SEA SFO-LHR are allegedly still operating 3rd June out 12th back, although return changed this evening to a 787. Although outbound direct cannot now be booked, only with AA via other options, so expecting cancellation or cancellable reroute soon…

    • MD says:

It probably varies by route but if it’s any help BA have just (today) cancelled my London – Bordeaux flights which were 21/06 to 27/06.
