The new HFP chat thread – Saturday 25th April

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/04/25/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-saturday-25th-april/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

  • Green Plastic says:

Hi all, couple of quick questions about Vanguard / Curve. Is Vanguard the same MCC as HL? If you make a deposit into Vanguard and withdraw it a week or so later, are Vanguard ok with this / has anyone experienced any problems? Many thanks

    • Secret Squirrel says:

      HL?

    • Spaghetti Town says:

Not sure. I’ve only paid in to Vanguard and that money will stay there for quite a long time. Don’t do it too much otherwise it’s suspicious. I paid into Vanguard with virgin as the underlying card with no issues.

  • FloriGuy says:

Does anyone think it matters whether one uses a Commercial or Personal Curve Card? I am self-employed so the App pushes you towards commercal at the Sign up page

    • Don says:

If you’re going for Metal then go for Personal, then at least Curve aren’t making as much out of you as they would be from Commercial given there is no fee/subscription discount for those of us with Commercial cards. Plus, its kinder to merchants if you care about that sort of thing.

      • FloriGuy says:

This is what I don’t understand – I thought that both were a debit card so no interchange fee (other than the fixed trasnaction charge). What difference does it make to the merchant?

        I don’t understand the fee/subscription discount issue?

        • Rob says:

Fees on commercial cards are not capped.

        • Secret Squirrel says:

Someone yesterday posted in chat they knew someone who had been asked for source of funds documents from NS&I.
Do we know how much & at what frequencies they were pushing through?

  • Baji Nahid says:

Vrigin Atlantic moves towards collapsing by the end of may.

I dont know if im allowed to link the article here? Its in the Telegraph

    According to the Telegraph:
“ Sir Richard Branson is seeking a buyer for Virgin Atlantic and has set an end-of-May deadline to save the airline from collapse after a taxpayer bailout proved beyond his reach.

The Sunday Telegraph has learnt that the pursuit of a £500m government package has been effectively shelved and that the airline is now focused on securing new private investment in the shadow of potential insolvency.”

“ Those interested in rescuing Virgin Atlantic are understood to include Lansdowne Partners, the hedge fund founded by George Osborne’s best man Peter Davies, Singapore sovereign wealth fund Temasek and Northill Capital, the fund that is backed by Italian-born Swiss Ernesto Bertarelli.”
