The new HFP chat thread – Thursday 16th April

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/04/16/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-16th-april/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working:

we could potentially split it into a daily travel and non-travel chat thread

we may install some basic forum software

we may start suggesting potential topics for daily discussion

Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Contacted the guy on FlyerTalk on Tuesday about a refund of my cancelled trip. Never heard back and refund has already hit my card and Avios redeposited. An excellent result.

Ps a reminder any refund will pro rata through any household account you are in. I did wonder at first why I didn’t receive the full amount.

    Hi All!
Have a cash booking with BA (Paris to Vancouver, J upgraded to F with a Gold Upgrade Voucher) for May. One flight has been cancelled so I know I can call and ask for a refund, but I would most likely lose my Gold Upgrade ( It’s a very old one, I used it when I booked last July, and its expiry date was Sep 2019)?
1/If I ask for a rebooking, what is the window BA would accept me to rebook it to (without having to pay any fare difference)?
2/ Assuming I can rebook it at a later date, then I guess I take the risk not to be able to cancel if there were travel restrictions still and all new flights would, however, be operating?
Thank you for any piece of advice –

I got a 12 month extension on my gold upgrade voucher! My advice would be to give the gold / GGL a call! The gold line have been fantastic recently and very flexible.

    • Charlieface says:

Another option is to rebook your current flight instead of taking a refund

Analysis by US-based Dollar Flight Club, based on patterns after previous crises, predicts average fare falls of 35% through 2021, but for prices to then double by 2025.

Would make sense if capacity is restricted by pullbacks and bankruptcies

I’ll re-post this tomorrow as it’s quite late. I made a curve payment on my laptop and it needed a verification code but I could not make it work, despite curve being open on my mobile. I then made the same payment on my (android) mobile, again with the curve app being open and the verification was NOT in the app, but rather via a PUSH notification. I pressed it, got asked to put my curve app pin in, then it all went through.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Sounds like there are some issues with the integration of this feature into the curve app as you’re not the first person to mention it.
