    OT,

Looking for some advice on the best usage of the Hilton free weekend night gained from the Visa card sign up offer.

I’m looking for UK only, i assume that means London

A pool/spa would be nice or some form of rooftop bar/terrace.
I’ve status matched to gold too.

    Thanks

    Chris

    • Alan says:

Nooo – you can use it worldwide, Chris!! Just needs standard reward room to be available (will be a round number of points if you search for availability on Hilton.com).

You’ll definitely enjoy it all the more with your Gold status match – excellent mid-tier status, that.

    • Genghis says:

      One night at Rangali? 🙂

      • chris says:

        Ha, i wish.

I wish, We’ll be leaving the baby with the grandparents for the first time so that probably pushing it. We’re based in Machester so London is always a nice change.
Looks like its a choice between the Conrad, Park Lane and the Waldorf?

I have squirelled away enough Virgin points for 2 UC returns for her 40th next November to NYC so i’ll be looking for recommendations on best usage of my points for hotel nearer the time.

    • CV3V says:

Worth bearing in mind that the Gold/Diamond free breakfast doesn’t apply to Waldorf hotels. I just used my voucher for a Hilton which thanks to Diamond status will also getme free breakfast and lounge access (note that not all Hiltons have a lounge).

Outside of London, the Hilton Liverpool and Manchester are both modern and with good facilities. Also have lounges should you be fortunate enough for an upgrade. Also there is now the Hilton Carlton in Edinburgh, worth a look.

      • Alan says:

Agree – I’ve always preferred Conrad hotels given that – many have very decent breakfasts on offer (esp Conrad Singapore!!)

      • Genghis says:

Though breakfast is not listed as a benefit at WA, we got a very delicious breakfast thrown in at the WA Shanghai in Sep as Diamonds.

      • YL says:

Just want to add if you meant The Waldorf Hilton London, it is actually a Hilton hotel. The name is rather confusing, but it is not a Waldorf Astoria hotel, therefore Gold do get free B there.

    • James67 says:

Following a similar question some weeks ago I am using mine at StGeorges Park aftef Rob reminded me of his review on the hotel. I wanted to try a good hotel in new area for us outside London though. You will find some Hilton agents will let you use it to book a night for your 40th trip next November, however, were you to subsequently cancel that stay after expiry date of your voucher you will be unable to use it again.

    • marco says:

Me and the missus used the free weekend at Double Tree by hilton in Chester. We loved it. Had late checkout, free drinks, cookies on arrival and access to the spa which is very nice. We had a great time.

  • Umberto says:

OT, can I covert my Tesco’s voucher into my wife’s avios account?

  • Oyster says:

Yet more off topic – is the Cathay J lounge open again in Terminal 3?

  • Rob says:

    Oh no 🙂

  • Simmo says:

    OT/
Has anybody ever converted Tesco vouchers to Royal Caribbean cruises? Seems you can get 3x value. which might work well with avios over to the states.
Any major watch outs? (Can they be used on Cruises which have offers of credit on board/ drinks packages etc?)

    • Mike says:

It’s worth contacting Royal Caribbean regarding this just to clarify what’s included and what’s not. I’ve been researching this option as I’m currently looking at a cruise for next October, which may be worth booking via the Tesco vouchers option. The reviews on the Tesco site are mixed, albeit the responses from Tesco and Royal Caribbean customer services seem to address the criticisms. To err on the side of caution, I would recommend contacting Royal Caribbean to check before committing to converting the vouchers. However, the last 2 reviews (3 days ago) are very positive, so perhaps they’re getting the initial teething problems resolved. £170 clubcard vouchers maximum pp

  • JPH says:

Just picked up two tickets for £40 to the Libertine tonight, fingers crossed for the comp too!

    Thanks Rob

  • Sunny says:

O/T: Just shopped at Tesco and on the bottom of the till receipt it asked about my visit at tescoviews.com in return for a chance to win a £1000 Tesco gift card and collect 25 clubcard points. I completed the survey in 5 minutes. However, at the end of the survey it states that “25 Clubcard points is the maximum amount one Clubcard account can be credited in one calendar month”. Still an easy 25 clubcard points!

    • Genghis says:

Yep. This has been going on for ages. The points don’t always credit though.

  • Rob says:

They would need to be saver level, but if an award shows as saver then you should be OK. Redeeming for Delta seems fairly easy – in terms of the call centre booking it – as you would expect given the shareholding.
