Up to 35% discount on Avios redemptions via Iberia Plus

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

Iberia Plus is having a sale on Avios redemptions on certain routes.  See here for details.

The routes are:

  • 2,295 Avios each-way – Madrid to Lisbon or Oran
  • 6,500 Avios each-way – Madrid to Athens or Nouakchott (look it up!)
  • 8,125 Avios each-way – Madrid to Accra
  • 13,000 Avios each-way – Madrid to Luanda

  • 15,000 Avios each-way – Madrid or Barcelona to Boston, Chicago, New York or San Juan (Puerto Rico)
  • 18,750 Avios each-way – Madrid to Los Angeles, Miami or San Salvador
  • 22,500 Avios each-way – Madrid or Barcelona to Buenos Aires

These are all for Economy redemptions, booked for travel before the end of October.

You must book via Iberia Plus, not British Airways Executive Club, and you can only transfer Avios to IB if you have been a member for 90 days.  To get the Economy redemption numbers listed above, you need to select ‘Blue’ level redemptions, which are Iberia’s discounted Economy redemptions.  (Unlike BA, Iberia has two levels of Economy redemptions, with ‘Blue’ being cheaper than ‘Economy’.)

Whilst you have to get to Madrid to pick up these redemptions, you will also benefit from substantially lower taxes and charges on Iberia redemptions compared with BAEC.  I discussed this is in more in detail in this post – ‘Dramatically cut your taxes with long-haul Iberia redemptions‘.

You will also avoid long-haul Air Passenger Duty if you book UK-Madrid and Madrid-XXXX on separate tickets, although this can leave you exposed if your first flight is delayed.

Hi I just checked MAD-SJU for 11 Sept and it looks like the 35~% discount also applies to business 40,000 down to 30,000.
    Great blog
H4P is the 1st email I open each day.

    • pazza2000 says:

Even with the positioning flights to MAD, this is a great deal; 60k + £70 rt MAD-SJU in Business for eg.

Shame that travel must be completed before the end of October, and the limited availability will make this difficult for most to take advantage of.

    • Raffles says:

Good spot. I have updated the text to reflect this.

  • paul says:

I did some tests on IB for MAD-JFK.
    One way in J: 30000 + E71
    J/Y 52500 + E110
    Y/J 62500 + E110
    J/J 70000 + E110
    These discounts are only one-way?

    • Raffles says:

I get J/J as 60,000 (out 16 Oct, back 26 Oct) plus Euro 110 for MAD to JFK. Were you trying to return after the 31 October deadline?

  • paul says:

You’re right. 1st November! Doh. Cheers
