Yup we booked Qured for our trip this weekend, doing the video stuff online in the morning then going to the airport, hopefully it all goes ok!

    Thanks for your input everyone.

While I appreciate the sentiment of the DIY option, and it is one I exercise where possible, the restaurant option is mainly when meeting up with friends who happen to be in London for some reason.

On the whole i’m happy with the standard of the meat and cooking at Hawksmoor and to a very slightly lesser extent Goodman (more imported beef) but like i said the last 2 visits just have been good rather than exceptional. The crust is a good example, I expect that from the places mentioned, and it was less prominent on the last few visits. Maybe this is something we can all blame on Covid? Difference between the branches? Who knows…

My understanding is that if you’re staying with your parents, you put that as the isolation address and you isolate there, with them. That’s within the rules – you’re not required to isolate on your own. And they are free to come and go as they please during your isolation period.

Yeh I probably dumbed it down a bit too much for my post, there’s no real option to stay with my parents as my sister is there with her family and due to fly back home before the New Year – the last thing we want to do is test positive and ruin it for everyone.

All the guidance is here and makes it clear you’re free to isolate with family you are staying with:

Thanks, i’ve read that a number of times and still thing the advice isn’t that clear – While you’re fine to quarantine the home of friends and/or family, I would find it hard to argue that having Xmas huddled around a dining table is “as far as possible, avoid contact with other people in the place where you’re quarantining”

By that logic there’s a quarter of the world left which seems like a lot still…

Tried to reply to some posts in the Halo testing thread and had to go through a CAPTCHA, which said i then had posted, but I couldn’t see my post, so tried again, and got an error that it was a duplicate. Maybe it’s in a moderation queue somewhere? Was able to post a new topic and reply to another message fine after that/

Took 4 hrs 40 mins to come through after testing at 11am on Sunday. I was still in galleries south waiting for my connection, isolating in the corner with several glasses of red.

No idea if they’ll be as quick in the lab in xmas day.

Thanks for the info. Like you said no clue what Xmas day will be like. Fingers are crossed.

+1 – These style of password pages make it a bit of a pain for keychain on Mac to suggest a password as there’s no user ID on the same page to get it to fire up. I ended up using the suggested password and copied it, then the action of logging in to the account with it prompted Safari to then save the password and username combo into Keychain. They seem to be getting more popular so i’m not sure if it’s one particular module insisting on this type of process or just becoming more fashionable… but i would definitely be happier with a more usual experience from a password manager (be that keychain or anything else like lastpass, 1password etc.)

Anyone done a Halo recently during normal hours and any expectation on how long the results took please? The wording keeps changing (the window is getting bigger) on the site. We are coming back from NYC on Xmas day morning and were hoping to go straight to my parents near Heathrow after doing an LFT as soon as we jump in the car, but since the changes we have been looking for a 3hr PCR which no one seems to be doing for this new 2 day arrivals test. Halo seems to be the best available option currently, so have paid our money and will have to see.

Current plan is to isolate at a hotel room near parents and wait for Halo result to come through which we realised might not be until the next morning, but better than nothing. Of course we’re hoping it comes through during the day at some point, we land at 8am-ish so might make it in time for Xmas dinner? 🙂

B gate to taxi with hold luggage in under 20 minutes beginning of Nov, A gate to tube in about 10 min a week later, never been through T5 so quick in either direction as I have with my 2 trips this year.

Gotta be joking haven’t you? Leaving London during busy periods on the main roads (at least west) is absolute murder! I used to park at Perivale or similar and get the tube instead of driving in/out.

RE: London. I don’t get what all the fuss is about, I don’t want to live there, and I don’t particularly like it there… but I do have to work there and if I can make my life better with tips and recommendations on the forum for things in London then all the better I say. I’m in favour of the subforum!
