British Airways has just announced the routes that it will be flying from London Gatwick for Summer 2022.

Tickets to 35 destinations have just been released at ba.com. If you want Avios seats for peak Summer dates then I recommend you book NOW.

Don’t rush to book cash tickets, as you may find that discounted prices don’t appear for a couple of days.

As a reminder, British Airways has decided to launch a new standalone airline to operate its short haul flights from London Gatwick. This won’t happen from Day 1 because BA is unable to get an Air Operators Certificate issued in time.

Flights will initially be operated by British Airways directly rather than the new BA Euroflyer business. Once BA Euroflyer launches, the flight crew and cabin crew will be on different contracts with poorer pay and conditions than their Heathrow counterparts.

To the customer, BA Euroflyer will look and feel exactly like a standard British Airways flight. There will be no difference in terms of baggage rules, seat selection, lounge access, food and drink etc.

British Airways Gatwick restart 2022

Club Europe will be offered on the new Gatwick services.

I am assuming that the airline will be moving back to its home in the South Terminal although this has not been confirmed. ba.com does show Gatwick South as the operating terminal during the booking process.

Where can I fly on BA from Gatwick next Summer?

Gatwick operations will relaunch in late March with a grand total of three aircraft. This will ramp up to 18 aircraft by the end of May.

Because of the small number of aircraft being used, services are erratic – flight times move from day to day, and some routes are only served on certain days of the week. Amsterdam, for example, departs at 07.35 on 29th March, 16.00 on 30th March and then not at all on 31st March, 1st April, 2nd April, 3rd April or 4th April.

British Airways will be serving the following short haul routes from London Gatwick next Summer:

  • Alicante – 1st April
  • Antalya – 2nd April
  • Amsterdam – 29th March
  • Athens – 4th May

I have FTV. Do I have to call BA or can I use online. Just been on hold for an hour to no avail. If I can do online that would be so helpful.

    • cats_are_best says:

      Isn’t it an eVoucher now?

It’d have what looks like a ticket number and can be used online (together with the surname and email address it was issued to.)

  • WAYNE VALLANCE says:

So I booked a flight from LGW to Malta, which was then moved to LHR. I now see Malta is back to LGW from next year. Will it also be from LHR? Wondering whether to canx/voucher LHR and book LGW again. So frustrating.

    • Matt says:

I’m in the same boat but for faro. I’m hoping they don’t change them back as my outbound is before 30th march and inbound after!

    • cats_are_best says:

It’ll depend on slot use at LHR and other things.

If you prefer LGW and price is ok it shouldn’t hurt to rebook, but this far out I would not count on flights remaining unchanged.

  • Mikeact says:

I guess this Gatwick news may impact Southampton next Winter….no more weekend flights to the sun.

    • Rob says:

Those aircraft need to be used somewhere ….

    • planeconcorde says:

The weekend flights from Southampton are operated by aircraft based at LCY. Which can’t fly from there for due to weekend shutdown times. So a different fleet to the LGW fleet,

  • Steve R says:

We’d booked RFS LGW – ANT back in Sept for next August. LGW is a right PITA living in the northern powerhouse!! But with reasonable flight times it made it bearable.

These new Ryanairesque are a whole new ball game. Perhaps they should name their LGW operations Brighton Air go with that silly tower
