BOOK NOW: 35 new British Airways Gatwick routes bookable for cash and Avios

British Airways has just announced the routes that it will be flying from London Gatwick for Summer 2022.

Tickets to 35 destinations have just been released at ba.com. If you want Avios seats for peak Summer dates then I recommend you book NOW.

Don’t rush to book cash tickets, as you may find that discounted prices don’t appear for a couple of days.

As a reminder, British Airways has decided to launch a new standalone airline to operate its short haul flights from London Gatwick. This won’t happen from Day 1 because BA is unable to get an Air Operators Certificate issued in time.

Flights will initially be operated by British Airways directly rather than the new BA Euroflyer business. Once BA Euroflyer launches, the flight crew and cabin crew will be on different contracts with poorer pay and conditions than their Heathrow counterparts.

To the customer, BA Euroflyer will look and feel exactly like a standard British Airways flight. There will be no difference in terms of baggage rules, seat selection, lounge access, food and drink etc.

Club Europe will be offered on the new Gatwick services.

I am assuming that the airline will be moving back to its home in the South Terminal although this has not been confirmed. ba.com does show Gatwick South as the operating terminal during the booking process.

Where can I fly on BA from Gatwick next Summer?

Gatwick operations will relaunch in late March with a grand total of three aircraft. This will ramp up to 18 aircraft by the end of May.

Because of the small number of aircraft being used, services are erratic – flight times move from day to day, and some routes are only served on certain days of the week. Amsterdam, for example, departs at 07.35 on 29th March, 16.00 on 30th March and then not at all on 31st March, 1st April, 2nd April, 3rd April or 4th April.

A few observations:

1) Berlin didn’t used to be a route from LGW for BA. From a quick look at BA.com there is a FRI-12-AUG-21 LGW to BER departure at 18:55 arriving at 22:00. There is a same day return from BER at 22:55 arriving at LGW at 00:00. So as previously reported no overnight stop away from LGW crew it seems is true. Giving a high utilization of the aircraft.

2) Given the reported no overnight stops for LGW crew there were previous comments on HfP about what would happen to BA flights to JERsey. As that typically has an overnight stop. I notice JERsey is not on the list of routes returning to LGW at the moment. From a quick check on ba.com that appears to be staying at LHR, for the time being. Flights are in the timetable up to November 2022 as operating LHR to JER.

The new takeoff times to Alicante are awful. Mostly 6:15am or late evening takeoffs arriving after midnight. There used to be reasonable mid morning or afternoon flights. Unless these change I’ll be sadly using another airline.

  Really disappointed with BA that the 2022 ALC flights are so unfamily friendly – the departure times exclude us totally from the outbound. EZY from now on (or VLC). But on a positive note, we were able to pick up 4x reward flights for the return this morning (thanks to the Seatspy alert email landing in the inbox). BA seems to have given up on ALC rather which I do find a little surprising.

From a quick straw poll, LGW flights seem to be more expensive from LHR at the moment.. Maybe prices will normalise in the next sale!

        One flight to where though? I was talking about the routes to Spain, France etc which ran for a couple of years until the pandemic hit.
