We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

mortgage application advice – what do I put for debt if I pay off my cards in full every month?

  • Mikeact says:

Anybody looking to earn a few Virgin miles using Delta, be aware from Jan 1st, lowest paid for fares will not earn miles anymore. Delta Elites are hit even more, no more International Business Class upgrades…PE from Economy only.

  • Mikeact says:

Reminds me…..never did hear anything more about the London Loyalty conference..

    • Rob says:

Good time was had by all and I made a good joke on stage about why the audience should advertise on HfP 🙂

Hi – I am flying to the US in Jan 22. And I was trying to add details on Verifly, but the dates do not go beyond 31 Dec. Am I missing something or is there a way to get to Jan 22 on the app?
    Thanks!

    • Rob says:

You are not meant to complete VeriFLY until a day or so before departure because it needs your test results and a current NHS vaccine certificate.

      • lazy_walking says:

Ok! I thought I’d update my vaccine cert, but will wait till the NY. Thanks Rob!

  • Tom says:

I am a bit of a novice with this so grateful for any tips. I have a small amount of Fly TAP points (just under 15k). I rarely fly with TAP or other Star Alliance partners, so much so that I forgot the points were there. Is there any way, even if it is circuitous, that these can be transferred out to Hilton, Marriott or IHG? It doesn’t seem possible, as far as I can tell, but perhaps there’s a trick I’m overlooking.

  • Anna says:

DP – Amex points for supp card (gold). I added a supp back in September, no points so queried via chat and they told me to wait 90 days. Chased it up again today and they have apologised and added the 3k points manually. A few people have had the same experience recently which is making me wonder if Amex has stopped adding points automatically in certain circumstances and hoping people won’t bother chase them up?!

    • Andyf says:

I’ve had the same issue with the supp but I’m also missing two additional sign up referrals bonuses. 21k points in total from the same time period. Chat has been useless and I have called them. They asked me to upload documents for proof I was eligible. I did this over a week ago and I haven’t heard since.
I’ve learnt from the past if I don’t keep bonus emails and screen shots with dates visible they refuse to pay out. I’ll chase again, you’ve reminded me.

Quite fancy updating my free BA to premium to get a better voucher. Do they ever offer a few Avios to offset the £250?

(No, I can’t get the sign up bonus)

    • Rob says:

You might get a random 6,000 Avios due to a weird Amex IT glitch which has not been fixed in 10 years. Officially, however, no.

You can do it for £20 though if you just upgrade for a month when you’re about to hit £10k.

I flew from city airport after work yesterday.
They must have a new security scanner as all liquids, laptops etc did not need to be taken out of hand baggage when putting the items on the tray for the scanner.
Everyone was very confused and security had to keep telling people to leave all items in their bags.

    • Mr. AC says:

Finally! I’ve seen this scanners in Japan in 2014…

    • Aston100 says:

Oh no, Manchester security will need to take issue with something else now – maybe the colour of your jacket?

      • davefl says:

Interestingly MAN stopped taking issue with my left leg for the 1st time in years when I went through on sunday, it’s been a regular thing for them to give it a full pat down, even though it’s identical to the right. leg and neither have anything in it.

But as I commented at the time they did object to a plastic reseable bag of the correct size with 5 small bottles in it that has been to 4 continents, over 30 airports inc russia, china, usa and all over america.. and oh.. manchester at least 30 times before.

Can we start a pool on what the next thing will be?

    • Richie says:

      Great news!

    • andy says:

They were trialling the around this time last year and it was a complete mess, fortunately haven’t seen the since….hopefully they’ve figured out how to use them properly

    • FFoxSake says:

I had this at LHR T5 on Tuesday evening too – I was doing a domestic connection after coming in from Athens and started to unload laptop, take off belt and empty bottle of water etc, but they just said put it all through as-is.
Felt very wrong after all this time!
