We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

BAPP retention offer – spend £3000 get 10k avios, does anyone know if that is account level i.e spend across all your cards count like for sign up bonus? Just completed the spend then realized I did not check this point…

    • The Streets says:

Nope.. it is just on your card. I automatically thought it was across all cards but then realised it was just my own

Ordered an observed antigen with Project Screen. It has arrived and flight is tomorrow as I have to travel urgently. It says I need to book an appointment via Azova. Can’t see where to book the appointment on their website! Do they do same day appointments as for USA it needs to be done a day before which is today? It leads me to buying a kit from them and otherwise only shows Day 2, 8 and PCR for activation.
As a back up what’s the nearest observed antigen or PCR that would give me result today. I am not too far from Heathrow.

Good morning from Voco Grand Central Central.

Just wanted to say I’ve been impressed by the Spire recognition here, as well as the general impression created by the hotel.

We booked a Standard Room for 23k points. Were upgraded to a King Bed Premium Deluxe (3-4 levels of room type I think) and we were given 4 drinks vouchers (decent wine @ £7 per glass was consumed with a rather tasty nut mix).

Also they provided a lovely comfortable bed and separate water bowl in the room for our pug. He loved the bed and we’re struggling to get him to move out of it this morning.

The room has been refurbished well, within the constraints of an old building and mid-market budget

The public areas are nice with lots of old wood panelling and great big chandeliers.

Location is excellent, especially if arriving by train but the parking is reasonable and easily accessed for £12.50 per night, if arriving by car.

Though the Voco isn’t as nice as the Glasgow Kimpton, it represents much better value for a redemption.

Ps we were in Glasgow to watch The Darkness last night. They were great fun and I’d recommend seeing them as well.

Nice review, thanks! I’ve stayed at the Hotel Indigo a few times in Glasgow for a whisky tasting event that’s becoming a quarterly thing. Might consider Voco instead for the February trip.

Hoping someone can help. What is the best number to call avios team at BA? Bought a 241 ticket and they have changed one part of the outgoing flight by 12 hours and I need to make changes to reduce the layover time. I have called 0344493 0747 option 1, option 1 and option 1 and after being on hold for 1 hour it cuts off, did this 3 times yesterday and I started again today.
When I call the normal BA customer services, they say they cannot change an avios booking and need to speak to that team.

    • Pete M says:

I find calling the US Avios number about 9pm UK time generally works well.

      • Bee says:

Thank you – I thought about calling other countries. What is the US number? Last night (about 8pm) I tried the US with +1 800 452 1201 and it just kept getting cut off when I pick avios booking option.

        • Pete M says:

Depends on your status – check the Exec Club website for the US number relevant to your card type. Make sure to use Skype to make it free 🙂

    Thank you

As per a post from yesterday (thanks) I managed to transfer 50000 Avios to Nectar via the BAEC shopping portal app. Still unable to do so from Nectar app.

Who knows when they’ll arrive , if at least they are sent!

    • Andrew says:

I did it via the Nectar app yesterday – maybe check your app is up to date.

    • DAJ says:

Still waiting for my 50,000 Avios transfer which I made on 20th November so 20 days and counting.

I was looking to book a hotel in Canary Wharf next year and I discovered that the Lincoln Plaza (Curio, near South Quay DLR) now isn’t planned to reopen until the end of June 2022!

Then I looked at the portfolio page of the company that owns this and now they own two Hilton properties (Curio + LHR T5) – I’m sure there used to be much more.

Have they had to sell off properties or am I imagining they had a larger portfolio?

    • Chrisasaurus says:

No, you’re correct – they held the DT at Excel, Hampton at Waterloo and DT in York a couple of years ago in addition.

    • Chrism20 says:

I was wondering about Lincoln Plaza and wondered if/when it would reopen. It’s a solid hotel with the only letdown being the ridiculous coffee policy at breakfast.

  • Diydegsy says:

Does anyone know where I can get day 2 test at or around Heathrow airport after 8pm Sunday 19th December as flight arrives 7.45pm and I have to be at work on Tuesday or any other suggestions please?

    • Tracey says:

You’ve got all of a Monday, so any Collinson premium option would do, or back to halo at the Sofitel T5 on Monday.
