We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hoping someone can guide me here. I currently have a BA Blue standard AMEX card after downgrading from the Premium black card about 18 months ago. The app tells me I need to spend approx. £4500 by April 2022 to reach 12k and get my companion voucher.

My question here is just before I reach 10k spending can I switch to a premium black card and then trigger the voucher with a lower spend of 10k with a longer expiry?

    Thank you for any advice.

    • MilesOnPoint says:

Yes, you can. Over the phone upgrade no longer available. Try applying for BA Premium card via the website and then it should recognise you as an existing card holder and confirming if you wish to upgrade.

If you have no luck with above, then you should be able to upgrade via the chat service in amex app 👍🏻

well another reason for not taking it out!!!!

Surprised, well I am not, that any self respecting firm would wish to tarnish its reputation by being associated with the mendacious clowns inside that building.

      • Paul Pogba says:

I don’t know who I have the most disdain for, our clown PM or the Judas fintech chief that sells out his customers. It’s hard to see either of them being in their current positions this time next year.

  • Paul says:

My wife and I have both tested positive for Covid-19 scuppering plans for a weekend away. We are both fine.

However the NHS app no longer has any Covid vaccination data and the QR codes has all vanished from the record with simply a yellow box and statement No covid-19 records found. I have assumed this is normal for those who test positive but I don’t know. Can anyone confirm this?

    • Beardless Hipster says:

They will come back after 10 days including a new Recovery certificate.

    • Rob says:

      Yes, normal.

    • Mick S says:

yep, standard – my wife has this just now. Its a nonsense error message, why it cant have something more meaningful is beyond me.

it’s a pointless as the “download an offline” copy of your certificate which generates a url in an email. There is nothing offline about it. 🙁

Just reached the dizzy heights of Heathrow Rewards Premium – does anyone know if the additional rewards that come with this (rocketmiles bonus, Duty free voucher) are time bound or open?

    • paul says:

I spent £4k in the two years 2018/19 and beyond the double points cannot recall any tangible benefit from being a premium member. The one thing I wanted, wifi, while at a gate, didn’t work and involved selling both children and the cat as well as all of my personal data!.
They extended my membership last year but have steadfastly refused to do so for 2022. Pity as I am in the market for a Macbook pro but I now pick it up in the USA. My travel has been entirely domestic in 2021 with just 1 flight to Athens to get out of plague island in the summer ( an entirely apt description given my current triple vaxed covid positive status! Alas, Heathrow live in an entirely different dimension to the rest of humanity

  • Ceri Chaplin says:

I travelled on a booking with BA holidays at the start of October and still have not had the double tier points added. When I try to enter the ticket number on the BA website for missing tier points it does not recognise it. Anyone have any other ideas of how to claim?

    • DMW says:

      Email your details here bahonline@holidays.britishairways.com
I heard back within 48 hours. They added the points manually.

    • FFoxSake says:

Partially related question, I just completed flights home after a BAH 5 nights away. How quickly should the basic tier points for the flights appear (I realise the double points will take up to 30 days)?
Nothing showing from last weeks outward flights on Dec 2nd yet.

      • WaynedP says:

My experience is things are taking double the stated 72 hours.

My last CE flights of 26 November took six and a bit days to post.

I’d give it a full week (if you can) before querying it in writing.

        • FFoxSake says:

OK thanks, I’ll give them a few more days to update the recent activity.

  • Dave says:

Been 14 days now since I put an Avios to Nectar request in. Avios points were taken instantly, but still not appeared on my Nectar account. Anybody else’s appeared yet who’ve done a recent transfer?

    • DAJ says:

I requested a 50,000 Avios to Nectar transfer on 20 November and I am still waiting (18 days) which is ridiculous.

Tried Nectar customer support who were useless and pointed me I direction of BA. Contacted BA via live chat who escalated it to back office team several days ago. Still nothing. Have now raised a complaint via BA online portal 2 days ago and awaiting an update.

To be frank, this is shambolic service and anecdotally, there are a number of people in the same position.

A call out to Rob – with your contacts is there any way of establishing if there is a known issue with this as there are clearly delays in processing these requests which is simply not good enough? Even the decency of an update from BA/Nectar stating there were delays would be a start.

      • Peter Taysum says:

Currently the Avios to Nectar is not working; I’ve been checking daily as wish to send over 50000 Avios.

My experience is that it goes through on day 10 at noon (but don’t show up at Sainsburys until the following day; work around is get them to phone Nectar!)

Given the time period I think this is a cock up with the BA “upgrades”. I contacted BA; they put me through to a number; message and hung up on me. I couldn’t take the number as was driving.

        Good luck!

      • Rob says:

It all seems to be blocked up. My wife’s BA Amex Avios didn’t transfer this month, for example. It’s very possible there are back end issues after the IT work which we can’t see but haven’t yet been fixed.

  • rams says:

I stayed at a Hilton with points the other day. It was a 50k points stay. Is it normal that they awarded me points for the stay (including Gold bonus) and charged less?

    • DarrenS says:

I have had this twice recently, never noticed before.

      • Peter Taysum says:

Is it the “double points” offer? Giving points on points that wouldn’t normally post?!? 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • can says:

In redemption stays at Hilton, I’ve only got Milestone bonus or “myway preferences bonus”. no base, gold/diamond elite points.

Good for you, if you got them 🙂

    • John says:

If you’re Gold and didn’t take breakfast it would normally show as -49000 points.

Sometimes there is an IT error and you get points based on what Hilton paid the hotel for your stay. So if your stay cost Hilton $200 (base price) and you have a Visa card in your profile, given the current promos you might wrongfully earn 7600 points.

Your account would then show you paid -41400 points.

      • John says:

Also as can above says if this stay triggered a milestone bonus it would be included too. The app doesn’t show points breakdowns but the website does, if you can even log on

  • Zoe says:

Not travel related but does anyone know if Waitrose £8 off £40 instore vouchers still work on the total pre multi buys? Eg total pre multi buys £41 total after is £30 can still use £8 off?
    Thanks in advance

    • TGLoyalty says:

No they work off the final sub total after offers.

      • David D says:

Always used to work with the pre-offer total. The staff on the checkout were always surprised to see it work in our nearest store and thought getting a load of products priced individually at £40 or a touch over for around £15 was fantastic. We did use every offer in the book with the “free” newspaper too to really increase the discount though.

        • VJ says:

Used to when they had 20% waitrose special discount on certain products (3-4 years ago)

    • Louise K says:

Not to my knowledge – spend must be over £40 after discounts.

    • Alekun says:

£40 after all BOGOFs, Multibuy Discounts.
