We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Yet another Selfridges offer £50 off £250. Are they struggling? I think this is batch 3 of the offer

I’ve use the offer 6-8 times in the last 2/3 already across main + supps

    • Lady London says:

Lots of bricks and mortar retail is struggling due to structural change. Stores like Selfridges and Harrods in London did a huge part of their trade due to wealthy tourists making regular trips to shop in London each year.

Stopping the Tax Free Shopping scheme was a massive own goal given the UK’s reputation as one of the very best places to shop in the world at all levels from luxury to cheap.

      • PeteM says:

I ordered a massage gun from them online the other week. Order got cancelled three days later as it was “out of stock”. Still happily on sale on the website that day. Customer service useless. Went to have a look on TrustPilot and was shocked – their whole website operation appears to be a complete joke. Really don’t understand why you’d want to destroy your reputation that way…

        • meta says:

It’s not that they want to destroy their reputation, they have no way out as there is not enough good staff. Everyone left both due to Brexit and covid and it’s not just the EU citizens who left. Britain has unfortunately become undesirable place to live.

          • PeteM says:

Nah, this isn’t lack of staff (or at least not all of it). If you read the reviews they seem to be intentionally taking orders they must know they can’t fulfil (unless they have an insanely terrible stock control system and integration with their website). I wonder if this was part of their Thai takeover efforts – boosting sales at any cost…?

          • Christina says:

Selfridges don’t care for their staff, so attrition rate is over 90% in the first year.

    • Tariq says:

Thanks for the tip. I’ll head down there this week to grab some more gift cards…!

  • Jody says:

I’ve had my Amex gold for over a month now, and still no sign of any offers. Been spending on it. I know I could get Shop Small added manually, but not bothered as unlikely to go anywhere that’s in the offer. However, I would like to get access to other offers.

    Any ideas?

    • Reney says:

The longest I have had to wait is exactly one month. Some claims they never get any like ever and customer services can’t help.

    • Brighton Belle says:

Same here Platinum is costing a pretty monthly fee and no offers. With Omicron killing the return of travel Amex have given me no reason to keep the card.

  • doctorbee says:

A warning for anyone wanting to use Collinson for PCR Day 2 testing. I am still waiting for a test result and in self isolation well over 48 hours later with no indication of how long it will take, and no response from chat or Whatsapp messaging. According to Twitter, there are many people returning to the UK last weekend in this situation.

It seems that they took far too many appointments on last weekend and are struggling to cope. So I would suggest going elsewhere if you are coming back to the UK in the coming weeks.

Does anyone have experience with ExpressTest – seem to not have as many recent bad reviews on Trustpilot.

    • Polly says:

Yes ET we’re fine, ours came back before the 3 hrs. We did pay 118 pp tho…fit to fly cert.

    • Harry T says:

Used expresstest for predeparture test for Dubai – tested at 8.30pm, results back at 3.15pm the next day (advertised as return by 10pm next day). We are using them for our day 2 when we get back.

    • K says:

Collinson’s have not responded to my emails, WhatsApp either. No chat feature. It’s been almost 2 weeks now. I sent them a reminder. The government seem to be happy for us to spend our money on bad customer service.

  • buchanan101 says:

Question – can more than one FTV be used on a booking

Debating going for a FTV or refund of Avios (so £35 cost) on flights to Austria

  • Polly says:

HALO came back after 4 hrs.. negative, so can escape isolation now…but it’s soooo cold outside. Missing the lovely warmth of Singapore…distant memory already…

    • Gary says:

Good to know as OH using it tomorrow. Yes it’s freezing and welcome home!

    • Ikaz says:

Glad to see that you made it home with no further troubles! Thanks for sharing your recent trip experience, I will keep it in mind when trying to get to asia for Easter 2022 (if Japan re-opens the border that is)

  • Richie says:

Does any travel insurance cover for hotel isolating costs in the UK if the country you’re returning from becomes a Red list country? I checked staysure and they don’t?

  • Ls says:

Why are some people’s posts showing up with a blue highlight (as Rob s posts do)?

    • Reney says:

they signed up to the forum and there is a bug which Rhy said will be fixed for
      office.

    • Rui N. says:

It’s a revolution. We’re taking over the website.

    • KevinC says:

It’s like that Matrix film with all the agent Smiths.

    • Rob says:

Temporary tech issue linked to the forum being launched. It appears that any registered user of the site shows as blue, as that would now include anyone registered for the forum, whereas before today it was just 5-6 people.

  • Reney says:

My PAW 25x Tesco transaction has just tipped over one month and no sign of paying out. Has anyone ever chased these before?
