We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

What’s the best place to park at Heathrow for long stay parking (around 6 weeks from late Feb)? I’ve tried looking at NCP’s website but it’s not giving me any results that far in advance. Heathrow’s official website is quoting me around £260 for the T2/3 long stay car park, but are there better deals elsewhere?

    • Rich says:

Are there lots of you in the car? If not I’d take the train or coach personally. £6.20 a day is as good as it gets for on airport long stay and you can get a few quid’s worth of points back with Heathrow Rewards too.

    • can says:

Meet and greet are often much cheaper, if you trust them

    • Andrew says:

NCP appear to have wound down their operations at Heathrow.

Remember to book AA/RAC assistance for coming back. Six weeks without use and you’ll probably have a flat battery between onboard systems, alarms and the Dashcam.

Personally, I’d only park at Heathrow for 6 weeks if I was more worried about leaving my car unattended on my drive or on the street outside my house for 6 weeks.

      • Kevin says:

Thanks for the advice – Im only driving there as I dont want to risk taking public transport to heathrow and subsequently testing positive for covid during my trip… 21 days hotel quarantine in hong kong is already long enough 🙂

Have a look at Holiday Extras, Park and Ride will be £195, meet and greet £240. Do you have any other travel benefits with a bank etc? I have Natwest Black and would get meet and greet for £175 for 6 weeks. I have used them a few times recently with no issue and a great service.

I parked at Staybridge suites bath road for 3 weeks recently. They charged me £5 a day in addition to room cost which was a points booking.

It seems when logged into the Forums, our user account spills over here.

While fine, it’s auto-moderating our comments (I’m guessing because it’s a new account?) and not showing our user name or logo in the comment. It seems to show a HFP logo instead… presumably because it’s using the same account system as you guys use to post articles etc.

Not sure if anyone else has commented but Crowne Plaza Kings Cross have turned back into a COVID Hotel.
I just got a badly copied and pasted email saying that my Wednesday night booking is cancelled (plus further bookings made in Dec & Jan ).
On what I had booked, if I had cancelled it would have cost me the whole nights stay, slightly livid that they have done nothing to help rebook me in another CP or IHG hotel.

This plus the fact that Intercontinental The O2 are not honouring a joint promotion with The O2 for another booking (free breakfast, free parking via link on The O2 site) have really made it feel worthwhile hitting Spire Elite last week.

    • John says:

      Take them to court

    • Graham-Walsh says:

Yes had this coming Saturday stay cancelled and now can’t get another room anywhere. They won’t apply the voucher to Camden Lock. Now trying to put me in a Mr & Mrs Smith hotel.

  • Paul says:

Has anyone had any sense from BA regarding Nectar? I transferred Avios to Nectar and they have never arrived, it was over 2 weeks ago now.

  • Mr. AC says:

For the first time in my life managed to get a retention offer from Amex – 10000 avios for spending 3k over 3 months. Was so pleasantly surprised (wasn’t expecting it, genuinely was planning to cancel the card) that I forgot to ask if supplementally card spend counts. Does anyone know?

  • MD says:

Hi, this is Rob here! Free drinks for all London HfPers in the bar in Claridges this evening, at my expense!

    😂

(This is great, everything looks like it’s posted by a mod.)

  • Chris says:

anyone willing to disclose a Marriott that’s possible to remotely check in/out?

  • Toby says:

I may need to go to Paris for the day on Thursday and haven’t travelled for a while. Just to confirm I need to:

1- Do a (non-NHS) LFT or PCR within 48 hours of arriving in France and show the result (For French regs)
2 – Do another (non-NHS) LFT or PCR within 48 hours of returning home (for England regs)
3 – Do a PCR test on days 0,1,2 of getting home, & quarantine until I get a result. (For England regs)

If that’s right, can I use the same test for 1 & 2 or do they need to be separate tests for some reason?

    • Steve says:

Pretty sure that’s correct, and that you can use the same test for 1&2 (and obviously do an LFT).

      • Steve says:

PS this all assumes you’re fully vaccinated, of course.

        • Toby says:

Super thanks! Whoops: yes, i should have said fully-vaccinated (and hopefully getting booster today)

    • Ben W says:

Yes, 1 and 2 can be the same test according to the rules.

Re 2, it’s not technically 48 hours, it’s in the two days before, so to return on Thursday you can do the test on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. 1 is 48 hours though. The difference in timings actually gives you a bit more flexibility in when you do the test.

I’m off to Paris for the day myself tmrw.

      • Rich_A says:

Although you can to test 2 on Tue, Wed or Thu, I would absolutely make sure it’s within 48 hours if you can. There is so much confusion and duff information out there, including Sajid Javid saying (incorrectly) 48 hours in the Commons yesterday. I’m sure Eurostar are on the ball, but just in case.

A single LFT that fulfils the criteria for 1 and 2 done on Wednesday morning should be fine.

        • benw says:

It has an explicit example on the Government website (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england), so if Eurostar don’t accept that then there’s no hope.

          “When to take your test
You must take the test in the 2 days before your service to England departs.

For example, if you travel directly to England on Friday, you could take a test any time on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The test result must be available for boarding.

If your journey to England is a multi-leg journey, you can take the test in the 2 days before the start of the first leg.”

          • Toby says:

OK, thank you all! Glad I checked this! I’ll report back how I get on!
