The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 7th December

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Complaint lodged with Creation for my points. Might as well add to the pile of complaints they’ve already received. Cannot see anywhere in their terms and conditions regarding not issuing points between the notice and the account closing

    • Lady London says:

Everyone should raise a formal complaint with Creation demanding fulfilment of all promised benefits immediately if they haven’t already.

All remedies (FOS, MCOL) require you to have given the complained-about company 8 weeks to satisfactorily resolve, or say, a reasonable number of denied requests (say, 3) or complained-about company to have said something like “final answer” or we won’t deal with this” before you can take those other steps – all to show you’ve given the company a chance to resolve.

Note also that your contract with the company is individual and therefore requires you to take action for compensation and/or provision of promised benefits etc. It’s possible Creation may be shamed or ordered to provide these across the board – and it definitely helps if as many people as possible complain – but the providers of the IHG credit card Creation may be sleazy enough to only give remedies to the individuals that challenge and get judgment to make them do so.

Personally I think Creation’s playing for time and thinking they can get away with what seems to be getawaywithable in their homeland France. So no sense hanging around.

The sooner you start the clock ticking on an official complaint to them (phone or email) the sooner the ability to get FOS to sort them out or MCOL to award what you should receive due to breach of contract/possible Unfair Contract Terms, will be able to be used. Both are low/no cost to you but (unless Creation arranged a season ticket with the FOS) has standard cost £750 to Creation per FOS complaint.

Phone route does not work. They hanged up on me twice after keeping me on hold for 15m each time. Sent a recorded delivery letter.

  • JanM says:

Morning all, Someone on this forum called Js at Europcar offered to help book their buggy one-way airport rentals. They told me to e-mail J585023742. I’ve added europcar.com and europcar.co.uk but they all bounced. The address is incorrect or it says “Relay access denied”. If Js is still out there, I really appreciate the offer to help! Any other route to get to Heathrow would be such a hassle from Cardiff. Thanks.

    • JS says:

I am not from europecar, its g mail, nothing for sure but depending on your circumstances and availability I might have an idea for you

  • Christina says:

The HfP virus chat thread. 🥱

    • Geoff 1977 says:

So many people full of seethe at the moment aren’t there Christina? People should be going to the pub and enjoying themselves. They’ve been open for almost eight months now.

Hope a few scented candles are dishes out as Xmas presents 🙂

  • Green Plastic says:

What are the current timescales looking like for BA Customer Services responding to cases?

    • JdeW says:

Pretty grim. I have had an issue with the BA App for several weeks showing only one flight (this has now been flown but still shows as Upcoming!) Have written, called, tweeted and still BA could not be less interested.

      • Green Plastic says:

Same here, have tried all those channels. They were initially replying on Twitter but then it suddenly went silent.

  • Rhys says:

Good morning everyone. We are soft-launching the FORUMS today which you can access at https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/forums

We wanted to give you, our regular commenters, early access before we publicise it more widely. Do leave us your feedback and any suggestions or changes you’d like to see over in the dedicated thread on the forum.

For now the structure is very loose – whilst we have created a number of sub forums we are leaving it up to you as to how you’d like to populate them all!

Registration is now open – we recommend you register, even if you have no intention of posting, as the same credentials can be used to comment on articles as well. This will ensure you get to keep your screen name 🙂

    Enjoy!

      Whoop whoo

    • Anna says:

Exciting! Do those of us who don’t live in London get a thread as well? 🤣

      • Geoff 1977 says:

85% of readers (or something like that) live or work in London according to Rob hence why there’s a London focus. It’s called knowing your customers/audience

        • Anna says:

Laughing emoji means it’s a joke @Geoff1977! I’m perfectly aware of the demographic …

          • Geoff 1977 says:

I know but some people seem to get quite touchy/feel victimised about the website being tailored to its audience

          • Anna says:

If it was so blooming expensive/time consuming to get to London I could avail myself much more of its delights!

          • Anna says:

            *Wasn’t. Because it is.

        • can says:

          how dare you 🙂

        • andyT says:

@Geoff – and also according to Rob the majority of his readers are high net worth individuals, and yet these same individuals complain that they need to pay for COVID-19 tests in order to travel. I’m very happy that I’m not a member of the London Metropolitan Elite!

      • stevenhp1987 says:

        +1

    • BuildBackBetter says:

Who wants to be first to start bendy – Solihull thread?

    • stevenhp1987 says:

      No Creation forum?

Might be useful with all the noise it’s been making!

    • MD says:

Hmm, well I registered but my post has come up as ‘Anonymous’ rather than my username. User error maybe?

    • Rhys says:

      You’re a shy bunch aren’t you 😉

    • AJA says:

Excellent news. Just registered and I notice that it records me as logged in to HfP generally.

      • Reney says:

+1 must be a bug somewhere. That is what soft launch is for.

        • Rhys says:

Could you clarify what you mean AJA? You should be able to use the same login to post on articles as well.

          • stevenhp1987 says:

I assume you cannot see what we see as you’re an admin… and I can’t post this on the forums (it fails to post), but this is how the website comments are looking today with everyone logged in!

          • Rhys says:

Noticed this – quite funny really!

Re you not being able to post – I see some of your posts but for some reason a lot of them keep going into moderation.

          • AJA says:

Hi Rhys When I click on here to post on this chat thread I now see that I am “Logged in as AJA.. Log out?” But my post doesn’t show my ID. It just shows a blue HfP block. I’ve just taken a screen shot and will email to hello@hfp to show what I see if that helps? AJA

          • Rhys says:

Got it – yes, the login is correct but the mod-style comments obviously aren’t!

          • AJA says:

Just edited my forum profile back to the desired email and checked it shows AJA. Now seeing what happens here when I post.

      • can says:

Me, too. In the forum account, it seems fine. Appearently it is based on the email address.

      • AJA says:

        OK trying again

        • AJA says:

That’s weird. The only way I can get my ID to show as AJA is to enter that in the first name field on my profile. That’s despite having the show my name as field correctly populated.

    • Reney says:

      Rhys,

Just taken a look and one request already! is it possible to show the number of comments on each threads. By which I mean, on the top page say I choose Barclays, which shows three threads, can you show here the number of comments in each thread.

In other news, Uber lose their high court case: Their business model (washing their hands of basically all responsibility) has been ruled unlawful:

    https://www.euronews.com/next/2021/12/07/uber-business-model-ruled-unlawful-by-uk-court-shaking-up-london-s-ridesharing-market

Can’t believe that they’ve not even been paying VAT!

    • Geoff 1977 says:

      Dead as the dodo

    • can says:

Or: can’t believe that the gov wasn’t even taxing them.
Or: what was I expecting from the torries

    • jjoohhnn says:

This has been common (VAT) for ages. I remember with Addison Lee back in about 2007 if you paid cash it went direct to driver, no VAT paid. If you paid by card, then it was processed by Addison Lee and you had to pay VAT, and then they paid the driver, but the driver got less of the cash.

    • jjoohhnn says:

Does this not apply to other areas of the UK? The article only mentions London?

    • yorkieflyer says:

Excellent news and Deliveroo et Al next

  • Novelty-Socks says:

Testing woes aside, is Shop Small working for anyone this time round? I’ve made two transactions at eligible retailers – one on Saturday night, one today. No email notification that the offer has triggered, no credit (yet) on my account.

Is this normal? I recall getting the emails pretty instantly in the past.

  • JdeW says:

Having issues with delivery of DAY 2 PCR test. Not sure if it is problem of Royal Mail or Collinson (Supplier). Collinson say it was despatched on 1 December…we now on Day 3 and no sign of any test kits.
