We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

10% Rebate at IHG has popped up on MBNA. Max £30.

Anyone had issues getting an IHG rebate from Barclaycard? I had a stay that wasn’t automatically picked up, put in a missing rebate request 3 weeks ago. Had the initial acknowledgement – but silence since. Can’t spot an alternative contact.

Datapoint. I had two Morrisons CB offers on a Virgin card recently, one at 10% and one at 7%. Just did the maths and both offers actually paid out at just 5%. Can’t complain but a little disappointing.

Friday is not a weekend in UAE from next year. IHG ambassadors watch out for change of terms for the free night voucher.

Halo Sofitel: did my day 2 test today at 11:46. Yet to receive the result. Anyway else faced longer than their 5 hours advertised wait?

I’m flying from London Heathrow to Maldives with Qatar Airways next week. On my way back, I’m flying from London Heathrow to Dublin with British Airways (separate ticket – with a 3 hour transit time). I’m then flying back from Dublin to East Midlands airport (6 days later)

I’m trying to get my head around the testing requirements. I know I’ll need a PCR within 96 hours of departure time to enter into Maldives, and that when doing a “Landside transit” in the UK, you still need a COVID test (PCR/LF) prior to travelling back which I can use to enter Ireland (although they are asking for a “professional” to carry out the LF test)

Do you think I’ll need to do a Day 2 PCR after returning from Ireland to EMA (as I’ll have been in Maldives in the 10 days before I arrive in England), or can I use a free PCR test in Ireland?

    Thanks

    • Lady London says:

Ireland is CTA so guessing nothing needed to EMA. And your Maldives risk coming back to UK was theoretically tested when you did thr Day 0-2 PCR test on your transit in LHR to Dub. I am not the greatest expert though

PS you’re pushing it on that transit time esp as sep ticket

Has anybody travelled to the Republic of Ireland recently?

“The test result must be certified and not self-administered.”

I had a test carried out at Cardiff Airport (Nuffield Health) previously, carried out by their own member of staff, but the certificate makes no mention of this?
