We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does anyone know if Iberia have a baggage drop-off / check-in service the day before a flight? Currently in Madrid and will be going to the airport a day before the flight for something else…would be great to kill two birds with one stone if possible!

Has anyone done anything like this before / are there any risks?

    • Triath5 says:

*Correction, its a BA award flight departing from MAD. Same question as above?

  • Barbara Wakely says:

My son is in Florida and hoping to fly Virgin to U.K. tomorrow. I have his day 2 test sorted when he arrives
He is at a clinic in Florida atm getting rapid antigen test. U.K. asks for PCR test or lateral flow for arrival. Is antigen test the same? Thank you for advice.

    • Harry T says:

Lateral flow is essentially another term for a rapid antigen test, from what I understand. The UK seems to use the term LF more than other countries.

      • Barbara Wakely says:

Thank you Harry for quick response

      • Andrew says:

RAT is an awkward acronym in the UK with the various confusing synoyms.

If you’re telling someone to do a RAT, they might think you are telling them not to do it – as in act dishonestly. Or instead of a swabbing their nose or tonsils, undertake a more risky “deep throat” swab

Had a one way flight (flight 1)
    Converted into FTV
    Flight 1 date passed
Booked a new reward booking with FTV, the booking ref stays the same
But I can’t add to my account

I can only access it manually on manage a booking
Any ideas how to add it?

I just spent more time than I expected registering. Briefly, the username I have been using for years didn’t work.

After a deal of clicking around, it turns out it contained an ‘illegal’ character. Phooey! ‘Legal’ for years, now ‘illegal’. What was it? An asterisk to differentiate me from the other Rogers.

OK, so I have to change my username. I thought ‘Roger that’ was quite stazzy, but HfP told me that it was already taken, so not so stazzy. But wait, an email from HfP welcomed me as Roger that!

Comment under moderation. I don’t know whether my elephant will transfer.

    Confused of London.

    • Rob says:

Will ask Rhys to check. If there is a Roger who does not have a commenting track record we can switch.

      • Roger that says:

        Great. Thanks, Rob

      • Rhys says:

Previously you weren’t registered to your name roger* was basically just a textfield.

With the new registration process it’s a bit stricter. But looks like it all worked out with roger that?

        • Roger that says:

Thanks, Rhys. Gosh, I hadn’t realised.

You have more than enough on your plate. While I’m happier with …*, I can live with … that.

          Thanks for sorting that out.

Still waiting for the Amex Supp card bonuses. 3 months and counting

  • Safety Card says:

Landed back to Heathrow this morning. No one at any point checked our Lat Flow that we took whilst away. Upon landing we drove 20 mins to Hasu Diagnostics in Slough. Had booked a 3- 6 hour return Day 2 PCR. Swab taken at 10.30, negative result at 1430. It was £99. For £50 you can get a result by the end of the day.

    • Sam G says:

presumably your airline checked in at check in ? The govt is expecting this to be the primary point of checking (with big fines for airlines who deliver people to the UK without correct docs)

Thanks for the feedback on Hasu – got some friends planning to use them in a couple of weeks!

      • Safety Card says:

Nope – no checks at check in. Used Verifly but set that up a day or so before at a point where it still wasn’t asking for a negative test result. Probably fell through a crack which will be paved over by tomorrow due to timelines

        • Ivanka says:

Hi Safety Card, are these self administered swabs at Hasu, or do the staff take them for you? I would rather my 7 year old did his own than fight with a tester.

          • Safety Card says:

Yep self administered. We went back into the car and did them there. Someone has his done by a staff member but I believe that was because he asked rather than standard policy.

        • SamG says:

Yes sounds like a bit of a one day loophole then (assuming verifly will now be checking !)

  • Andrew says:

Barclaycard are offering a 10% rebate on Prezee Gift Cards. You should get a code by email if you are targetted.

No Amazon, but there is M&S, John Lewis, Eurostar, Netflix, Hotels. Com, and others.

  • Geoff 1977 says:

“STOCKHOLM, Dec 7 (Reuters) – Sweden will reintroduce a raft of measures to curb rising COVID-19 infections, urging renewed social distancing and the use of masks in public transportation, the government said on Tuesday.”

They’ve already got vaccine passports too.

    • mkcol says:

Sounds similar to increased restrictions brought into Norway a few days ago.
