We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I can’t remember who else managed to snag the fare from CMN – MIA on American? Was back in September. I’m just getting the run around between American Airlines and Iberia as Iberia have cancelled my flight from Casablanca and not rebooked. They seem to say I’m starting in Madrid now, which isn’t a hardship but just concerned whether the rest of the itinery remains valid.

I’ve spoken to Iberia who said talk to AA who said talk to Iberia. I’d rather start in Madrid anyway.

Rob / Rhys: On a side note, the Forum stuff is coming up on search.

I want to take a alcohol gift to US from UK as Carr-on, no checked bags. It’s a sample set of: 20 Whiskies That Changed The World Tasting Set. 20x3cl. Two of us travelling, if we opened the box and split 10 x 3rd between us, would this be allowed?

    • Anna says:

They will need to fit in your zip lock toiletry bags and not exceed the maximum permitted amount of liquid (can’t recall what that is). I have transported miniature spirits this way previously and not had a problem.

  • Nicky says:

I asked the company who provided my day two LTF tests (just before the change to PCR) for a refund. They said NO. I then asked last night if I could use those tests for pre departure from the USA….they came back with NO. Really cheesed off because it just makes them thieving wotnnots in my book

    • Blenz101 says:

How long have you had them? I think distance selling regulations give you 14 days to return?

      • AndyGWP says:

I’ve been looking into this (as conscious I need to book something soon so that I get a suitable appointment time, but also conscious the government has a reputation for changing requirements on a whim and I don’t want to buy something I won’t use.)

I noticed Halo have the following in their refund policy:
We are unable to offer refunds for tests once the HALOV validation code for the Passenger Locator Form has been issued (This is sent via email immediately after a successful transaction). This is in line with other providers and Government policy to prevent fraudulent use of the code.

Eurofins however charge an admin fee / test kit fee charge
The cost of administration and of the non-transferable electronic code, which is consumed at the point of order, means that all Eurofins Covid-19 tests carry a £15 fee for cancellations. If a home sampling kit is cancelled after it has left our warehouse a £10 fee will be charged in addition to the administration fee as the sampling kit can no longer be certified as sterile

TL;DR – I think you’re at the mercy of your testing companies terms and conditions :/

        • Blenz101 says:

Willing to bet a court a court would side with the distance selling regulations over the terms of sale. Seems a bit steep to accuse the customer of fraudulent use of the code as a reason to not comply with the law.

A MCOL would likely be settled pretty quickly for anybody minded to claim.

        • TGLoyalty says:

These terms do not affect your statutory rights ie distance selling regs etc

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Name and shame.

    • Sandgrounder says:

You should still be able to use it whenever you choose if they won’t give your money back, and your day 2 cert will have all the info needed for a fit to fly.

  • Mr Common Sense says:

Is anybody else having trouble logging in to BAEC? When I try to login on the website it just constantly reloads the login page. No error message. Tried on app and it logged me out saying there is an authentication error. Any ideas?

    • mark says:

      Im having the same issue.
Starting to get really annoyed with this rubbish

    • Lawro says:

Yep having the same issue. Very frustrating!

    • DAJ says:

I can’t log in either – trying to select seats.

These IT issues are starting to really chip away at my loyalty and goodwill. Seriously considering alternatives even though I don’t really want to! They are forcing my hand though as this is simply not good enough.

    • Paul says:

+1, comes back password incorrect. ggrrrr

  • ianM says:

I am still confused about the pre departure test timing – is it required before 4am tomorrow ARRIVAL in UK, or DEPARTURE from USA? If latter I could get a flight tonight and avoid it??

Rob’s article suggests its time of arrival?

    • Yorkieflyer says:

It has always previously been 4am arrival time, this to chose a time when no flights arrive. The latest guidelines are worded differently and ambiguous hence some think one thing and some the other. U you may only know for sure at check in….

  • Lee says:

Question about rapid antigen test pre departure back to UK. Who set the rules for which type of test is acceptable, the airline or country you travelling to?

As I will need a test back to UK from Maldives and saw a comment from FT: My butler is telling me that Qatar Airways doesn’t accept rapid test even though the US does for return trips. I will fly with BA so I guess there shouldn’t be any issue use a certificate issued by a UK based company to check in at Male airport.

    • Pete M says:

It’s the country, but if the airline won’t accept it, you’re in a bit of a pickle. BA ground agents at outstations used to struggle with the likes of Prenetics, Qured, Chronomics, but they should be used to them now.

    • Blenz101 says:

The arrival rules are set by the country you are entering.

Is the issue that DOH requires a PCR test to connect? Not checked.

Etihad for example requires all passengers to have a negative PCR no matter what the entry requirements of the country you are visiting.
