We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Can I just check something. My understanding is that we can only have a maximum stay of 90 days per year within the EU.
Is that Calendar Jan 1st, or 90 days from first visit or rolling as long as you don’t exceed the 90 days. Thanks.

    • Anna says:

It’s a rolling period, but you need to get more info as it’s 90 days out of 180, not 90 per year.

      • Yorkie Aid says:

And the limits only apply to Shengen countries

      • Mikeact says:

Thanks, rolling I think will suit us fine…just need to sort out dates to fine tune our on-going plans.
And the punishment for an accidental few days over…paper fine through the post (from who) or the guillotine if in France ?

        • Anna says:

Good luck, I have managed to spend a grand total of 23 days in the EU in the past 700+!

As to punishment, individual member states are free to impose what penalties they see fit …

          • Anna says:

Did you know France only stopped using the guillotine in 1981?!! I bet JDB knows that.

        • Sam G says:

You can be stamped as an overstayer which will cause you problems going back in. Anecdotally I’ve heard places like Spain or Greece don’t pay much attention to a few days on exit but Netherlands is very strict. But things are getting a lot more computerised now so wouldn’t be risking it !

          • Lady London says:

2022 there’s a new tool coming in for Europe which will lead to much better tracking so danger of enforcement

        • Simon says:

I wouldn’t be risking it, it is done based on passport stamps to my surprise, doesn’t seem to be computerised. The security guard in Munich spent a few minutes going through my passport last month and told me I was on 70 days and to watch out for the 90 limit. No other border guard has said anything since, some don’t even seem to know the rules. On my day 89 I flew into Frankfurt and noticed the guard didn’t stamp my passport, when I asked him he said no need. Having a purple passport but not being in the EU seems to confuse them.

        • Lady London says:

Don ‘t risk it. Overstaying anywhere is a mark that gets your passport flagged for other countries which can lead to negative consequences (and you might not even know why).

Interesting Anna. Did you know the death sentence wasn’t officially abolished on the Isle of Man until 1993

  • Sarah Bellamy says:

BA awarding double tier points following promotion – anyone else not received the promotional points? 2 months ago I did Athens and then Pisa – both5 days, both hotels booked on BA and/or car hire, all through BA as per terms. Not received the bonus points yet?

  • Jody says:

Rhys, just got my free share after using your referral code on freetrade. It’s for MSCI Japan, and currently worth £12 ish, so not bad for a freebie!

  • Grimz says:

We returned into Heathrow from USA at 8am on Saturday morning and took flight up to ABZ at 12.15pm and did our PCR test with Chronomics at 5pm Saturday. I still haven’t received our results so I know I can’t go out of house. What happens if you don’t get the results within 2days?

    • Anna says:

Have you contacted Chronomics? I used them in the summer and got my result in about 10 minutes.

      • Grimz says:

This was a home test and dropped off at TUI shop yesterday as they recommended that instead of posting it. Contact is done by email and I am not getting a reply

    • HH says:

I would just go do an NHS PCR test if the Day 2 results didn’t turn up on time, and stop isolating when the results come back. I think that’s reasonable.

Anyone else not receive Clubcard points for their spending in last week’s final 2 or 3 days of the Tesco current account?

    • Jonathan says:

Me too, maybe leave it a little while then rattle a few cages

    • stevenhp1987 says:

My final spend was on 28th. Clubcard points were allocated correctly.

    Hi,

Family of 4 booked to go skiing in Tignes via flight to Geneva wc 1 at Jan. Given all the gov changes and current situation we have made the decision to cancel our trip ( gutted!) -£800 tied up in easyjet flights- does anyone have an inclining when easyjet will release their winter 2022/23 flight seats? Currently only available up to Sept 2022, would lessen the blow if we could change flights for next winter and not lose those flights as I think refund/ travel voucher is not applicable in our case.
    Thanks

    • Sam G says:

my reading of their “pledge” is you could move to flights up until 31 March 2022 and then be able to move those again also fee free. So you could “park” your tickets into March for now.

Be very careful when doing this though – first go through as a new booking and find flights equal to (or slightly more expensive) than what you paid for each leg originally. If you rebook to something lower priced (which you can’t tell in the “change booking” flow as everything will just say 0.00) then you lose the difference, it won’t come back if you change flights again later

BTW Pret are sending out Pret Perks e mails to coffee non-subscribers to try it out.

Does anyone know if Amex Shop Small can be cumulative? One of the local sandwich shops is on it but I’m never going to spend £15 on lunch.
