We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Given a 5x nectar voucher in Sainsbury’s today for using smartshop. Valid on all shops ti the 18th

    • The cyclist says:

Nice one, fill your boots, 25% off all wine if you buy 6 bottles as well including champers.

      • AJA says:

I took advantage of the 25% off all wine for 6 or more the other day. Stocked up on wine for Xmas. I haven’t had any till spits for the last 3 visits – I think they deliberately let the printer run out of paper and don’t refill it. 🙁

        • Gavin says:

I had a £5 off £50 code for Argos spit out valid to the 12th – it didn’t seem to be tied to my nectar number: URTXJK5L

    • Ryan says:

I found a “bonus 500 points on your next shop” voucher that someone left at the checkouts, have used a couple times and is showing on my nectar!

  • Backpacker says:

Anyone got a Freetrade referral for me, and want a free share?

Lots of websites have referral codes I could use – but I would prefer a HFP reader got the free share! 🙂
Pay it forward everyone, and hope we all get to travel without hassle soon…

  • David says:

Anyone else done the Sofitel Halo test and found the spitting very hard work – it just goes against the grain!

    • Anna says:

My friend had to do a spit test before coming back from Majorca – how does it work? If it can be done with saliva, why are we still sticking swabs into our brains?!

      • David says:

You get a tube and you screw on a funnel and spit till you fill the tube to the second line -it takes a lot of spitting !

        • Anna says:

No, I mean how do you get a diagnosis from saliva when we’re told to scrape out our tonsils and upper nasal passages?

          • davef says:

This is a good question as they just randomly PCR tested the entire plane at Larnaca (ahead of the mandatory inbound testing that starts monday).

She did just one brief shove up a nostril and then swabbed my tongue. Nowhere near as invasive or painful as I got in Iceland, was sore for 2 days after that one but if she only swabbed my tongue it’s a waste of time right?

      • Rui N. says:

Across Europe most of tests for kids are with saliva. Less precise but more “user friendly”. I’m surprised they are allowed for Day 2 though – but good thing that they are, of course.

        • Jen T says:

The Lancet published research recently showing that spit tests are actually more accurate. Probably less chance of doing it wrong/not swabbing enough.

        • davef says:

The Halo tests at T5 are spit tests.

    • Steve says:

I’d just landed on a red eye from NYC and was dehydrated as it was. 2ml was needed and it was very tough to get through

  • Can says:

Do paypal payments for merchants, ones that use paypal to get creditcard payments, count towards the signup bonus goal?
I thought I already reached my limit for the bonus, but the amex chat gave me a much lower spent, considering the pending ones.

    • Anna says:

You should have a progress bar in your account showing how close you are to the SUB (it can take a couple of days to catch up with actual spending). Paypal payments usually count though.

    • Polly says:

They must clear pending to count.

  • Jen T says:

For anyone curious about the Halo Verify testing at Sofitel T5 – sample submitted at 0915 this morning, result obtained 6 hours later. It seems to be the fastest way to get a result without spending a 3 figure sum. As mentioned above, spitting that much is quite hard work!

    • Polly says:

Thanks for the update. Makes a change from our brain being poked..have asked them to move our booking to Tuesday morning now…

    • Roy says:

Isn’t it supposed to be a guaranteed 5 hour result (during the daytime)?

  • Lewis says:

Anyone else unable to access their household account still?!
Need to add someone but bloody website!

  • Sharon says:

Can I ask about the priority pass that comes with the Preferred Rewards Gold Card please? It has 2 free lounge visits – can these only be used by me or can I use it for me plus my partner? Thank you

  • Tracey says:

Just cancelled a BA cash flight and bought a reward flight, wasn’t able to use the FTV for the 4 figure taxes/ charges.
