The HfP chat thread – Sunday 5th December

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

A sector that’s gone red on BA’s MMB can’t be a good sign right?

There doesn’t appear to be anything to suggest it has been cancelled and we’re due to fly on the 13th. Could it be something harmless?

    • Alan S says:

Looks like the flight departure time has changed by 5 minutes. Presumably that could be the cause.

      • Joe says:

Yes any minor change will cause it.

        • stevenhp1987 says:

I’ve had a sector go red today with no change.

“this flight is subject to potential disruption”. Isn’t every flight?!?

    • Babyg says:

think this is a blanket thing since the new tests came in…

  • Max says:

Has anyone recently managed to get Accor ALL points for afternoon tea at the Savoy? Staff today said this is only possible for overnight guests? Is that right?

  • Mco says:

If I land at LHR from USA at 8am and have a connecting flight to CDG 12hrs later will they give me my bags? Going to a friends house and would ideally like to leave some bags behind.

    • Jonathan says:

They’ve always been very anti short checking bags in the US. They’re very switched on to people skipping final legs on ex EU’s. Only time I ever persuaded them to was for overnight connections so be prepared to either travel HBO or spend some time waiting for them to retrieve your bags at LHR.

    • Lady London says:

I suspect if you’re lucky, provided you leave at least one bag checked through, checkin in US might agree to tag the other(s) to London.

The amex centurion lounge at covent garden, can’t find anything on the amex website apart from a convent garden website?
    Was it emailed?
Are there drinks this year? How many guests can you guest in?

    Thanks

  • Rma says:

School boy error. For years I’ve used the link on BA to apply for my ESTA. The link took you straight to the official government website and you paid their fee. Beware, the BA link now takes you to an agent and you pay #21 instead of #14. Okay, it’s not a fortune but extremely irritated with myself for not spotting BA link is conning you into using an intermediary. Agh…..

    Recovery certificate:
does anyone have any tips for getting this? We all had covid recently and to travel to Argentina we need a negative pcr or a fit to fly letter that the NHS doesn´t provide. Private GP´s are charging 150 gpb per person, we are a family of 5!! Thanks for your help.

    • Lady London says:

I suggest you just do cheap pcr test instead since GP price far exceeds test prices even for pcr reported day after day here every day on this thread.
