We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Good morning from SQ 706 starting our decent into Bangkok.

    • Froggee says:

That sounds better than not being able to sleep after my five year old coughed so much he puked up over his bed and carpet.

  • Polly says:

    And good morning from Singapore.

For those of you worried yesterday about our Colin’s actions going to Cancun. We needn’t have worried about their morals. Big write up today in Times Money section with their photo on the beach at Cancun. Either they took it to the Times, or they picked it up from HFP. Rob gets a quote in! Hfp had it first….

    • 1ATL says:

Colin was also lording it up himself over on Flyertalk. What a class act.

    • mr_jetlag says:

Polly looks like we just missed each other there, I flew back last week. Seems like tighter testing requirements now even under VTL. I’m coming back next month so am refreshing the ICA news everyday. Glad you’re enjoying the sunshine!

      • Polly says:

        Jet lag
Yep, was hoping you would touch base. We were staying next door to you, that’s if you were still at the Hyatt. Remember you were thinking of moving out of there. Could have met for a drinkie.

Yep the 7 days of tests kick in midnight on Monday for only 4 weeks tho, so you might miss it, if they reverse it. .we leave next week. Been an adventure, esp the few days l spent at the care facility, when my negative test was positive then negative. False positive they then admitted…Dubious, another hfp helped out, as he lived nearby. Still feels unreal. What fun, as they say…

    • John says:

So HFP is “a website that covers Avios news”

      • The Savage Squirrel says:

Well there’s no “only” in that statement so unless you’re suggesting that it’s (a) not a website or (b) doesn’t cover Avios news then, er …. yes 😀

      • Rob says:

I’m fine with that. It attracts the right people.

    • Billy says:

Any links from beyond the times paywall?

    • Tracey says:

Well if anything will close the loophole that will!

      • TGLoyalty says:

Why should it close. It’s not even a loophole!

Fact is people don’t have to come back to stay in the U.K. They can spend 10 full days in any third country they want before returning.

If anything it should force a change to end this ridiculous hotel quarantine policy

        • AJA says:

In Colin’s case he was lucky the quarantine hotels were full so he couldn’t book one anyway. But that being the case he might have been able to simply quarantine at home instead. Which would have been cheaper than the trip to Mexico.

          • TGLoyalty says:

Not sure what you’re saying. He had no intention of booking a hotel and then being then being full made no difference to the law around transit …

You’re unable to quarantine at home if the hotels are full. You’re not meant to travel with the intention of staying in the U.K. full stop and face a large fine if you do.

It’s either book a hotel or transit. No other option.

    • babyg_wc says:

What a dork, it’s one thing finding useful/lawful loopholes, but to show off is just dumb. Gov may change the rules for landside quarantine due to dorks like Colin. don’t be a colin

    • Paul says:

You guys are so odd. The govt covid rules/restrictions rarely make sense. All one can do is go along with it. Colin is going along with it to the best possible outcomes. I salute Colin.

      • babyg_wc says:

He reminds me of the Dubai influences of 2020, everyone showing off and flexing.. and then what happened… I would have done the same as Colin, but not done a press release to whoever would listen/publish… This is why we can’t have nice things

        • TGLoyalty says:

Anyone recall the uproar of Johnson’s dad going to Greece to “check on” his rental property during the travel ban …

          • AJA says:

Unless you’re OK with Stanley Johnson’s visit to Greece I think you’re displaying double standards. Upthread you plainly disagree with the current quarantine rules and are OK with people going to 3rd countries instead. Johnson snr going to Greece isn’t any different.

          • TGLoyalty says:

I don’t care about any of it … my point is “uproar” is created by the media and stories buried to reflect their political stance.

And Johnson’s trip was actually breaking the law because he was clearly on holiday which was banned.

The others are operating within the law.

        • Yorkieflyer says:

Yes sometimes it isn’t wise to make a song and dance about even legal and sensible activities as it winds the more hair shirted folk up to a frenzy

  • Boi says:

I hope Colin is reading and can tell me how the Hilton is…

The dates I am looking at are 95K/night, not 80k

  • Ash says:

Good morning…..on the BA estore Airbnb is listed as a Avios earning partner….thing is when you click the “shop now” click through button it takes you to Airbnb page where you enter your Exec in number. But when you read the T&C’s small print on the Airbnb estore page it lists a specific URL you have to cut and paste to use a to get the avios credit…this page is a different Airbnb page to the above and does not ask for your Exec Club number and it’s cut and pasted into new browser (it’s not hyperlinked). ….have you had avios credited with either?

    • Travel Strong says:

I’ve used the click through a few times and it’s credited.

  • Terwri says:

BA have confirmed, full compensation under EU 261 for a recent delayed first flight, causing me to miss my onward connection, necessitating an overnight stay and effectively 14 hour delay to original end point. Swift response to the claim and provision of bank details. Im pretty impressed.

    • 1ATL says:

I think when there’s no denying the fact they’re at fault, they’re usually pretty quick to fold and pay up. It’s when there’s a lot of grey area they tend to use that to their advantage and play the long game. That’s always been my experience. Glad you got quick resolution that exceeded expectation

      • Lady London says:

I wish that were how BA behaves 1ATL.

Really glad for Terry. But my bet is the fact that Terry was travelling First Class was a key helper. On irrops, BA does take care to accommodate people by class as far as I can tell.

Their regular treatment seems to be to deny and stonewall even completely cut and dried remedies that passengers have a clear right to.

  • 1ATL says:

Just a quick sense check about Virgin Flying Club membership numbers…. Are membership numbers starting 006 always red (base) level and those starting 10 always gold level?

  • Paul says:

Good morning from galleries north T5. Bubbles, Greek yogurt and a bacon roll. I am easily pleased …… sometimes:)

  • Annie says:

Good morning. Sorry if this is a silly question but if you have Hawaiian airlines indirect flight Honolulu to Las Vegas – will your checked luggage automatically transfer across during flight change over? Many thanks.

    • AJA says:

A bit more information needed. Where is the stop over ie where are you changing planes? Are you flying Hawaiian on both legs? Are both flights on one PNR / booking reference? If so I’d say yes chances are luggage will be booked through to LAS. If the second leg is on a different airline eg American Airlines then it depends if they interline.

      • Annie says:

Thanks for your reply. Yes sorry one ticket / one only – stopping in Maui then onto vegas.

        • AJA says:

Hi then yes I’d say your luggage will be booked through to LAS. Best to confirm at check-in though. Enjoy the trip.
