We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Curve advertising you can still use your Visa card on Amazon if you pay by curve.
Thought that was a smart bit of advertising by them, be interesting to see if Amazon are aware and what they make of that.

    • Rui N. says:

Amazon will pay the Mastercard fees, they don’t really have a reason to care (that doesn’t mean they won’t, of course!)

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

If it means that someone with only a VISA shops at Amazon, yet they still pay the (presumably far more favourable) Mastercard rate, they should be pretty happy about the whole thing, I’d have thought.

    • will says:

It depends of if Amazon want to turn a screw on Visa and make a big deal out of it.

Typically Curve in the tone of the advertising:
“We’ll continue working with Amazon to allow you to check out using your Visa credit card”

Your curve card will continue working with Amazon is (possibly) correct.
Do curve as a company “work” with Amazon.

You’d have thought they’d have learned their lesson about using semantics to insinuate that they are affiliated with big companies with existing reputations.

    • Gormlesstraveller says:

Perhaps it will be low level background noise to them, but no doubt Curve will want to talk to Bezos about the blogosphere and offer them a “top 50” of miscreants.

      • Char Char says:

Amazon unlike Creation or NSI will tell Curve to get lost, I trust Amazon far more than any Curve or Creationalist

        • will says:

From a sellers perspective on Amazon, I would argue, with evidence to back it up that it may look great and trustworthy to the customer but they are the equivalent of selling you carbon free energy while behind the scenes they’re putting lignite into the power stations dug up by 5 year olds.

None of us sellers are big enough to hold them to account and we’re all hooked on the money they drop in our pockets to keep us in business as they have gone a long way towards a monopoly with online retail marketplaces, but I think an absolute ton of what they do wouldn’t stand up in a court of law and they’ve learnt that if they do it and get away with it then even if held to task later, they’re rich enough and powerful enough to buy the government off and by that stage they own the market so they got what they wanted.

    • Char Char says:

Amazon should just ban Curve, teach them a lesson on customer service

      • Harrier25 says:

Curve may claim to be working with Amazon but the truth will be that Amazon are saying….”Curve who??!!”.

        • Blenz101 says:

All Amazon cared about was Visa not treating their tax wheeze as a forex transaction when calculating interchange fees.

    • Andrew says:

I can still use my Visa Card at Amazon by buying Gift Cards at Morrison’s or Tesco, they’ll even give me generous rebates for doing so.

  • Sina says:

Are there any retention bonus for Amex Business Plat?

  • Stagger Lee says:

My 14000 Nectar points from last week’s x50 deal have posted to my account 🙂

    • Andy says:

Same here, nice to have them so I know that my purchase was actually a good deal now!

  • Tracey says:

Official rules for boosters currently are that GP led clinics can book patients in from 5 months past 2nd vaccine, walk in clinics can take people at 6 months.

  • ChasP says:

The Economist 1 year subscription with 18,000 Avios offer from around Jun 21. Not received the avios according to BAEC statement and called The Economist CSA who advised I should chase the airline? Is this right? Usually one chases the merchant rather than the airline.

    • Pete C says:

I’ve chased them a few times for mine – they always say they’ll deal with it then nothing happens. Don’t really know what to try next but I can’t imagine chasing BA will help

    • Oliver says:

In case helpful: I subscribed 28 June and the Avios posted to my BAEC account on 4 July. Arrived as two transactions: 3k + a 15k ‘bonus’. First time subscriber.

Perhaps try asking Economist for a letter confirming they sent 18k to your account on X date, so you can then chase BA for ‘missing’ points?

    Singapore testing update

MOH. From Monday Dec 6th 23.59. 7 days of tests.
PCR on arrival, plus of course fit to fly PCR
Then RATs days 3 and 7, supervised in local test centre
Then days 2,4,5 and 6, self administered reportable online RATs, every morning, before you go that day.
MOH confident they can pick up Omicron.
So there you have it. People just being notified atm.
We are leaving just in time, we hope!

Anyone know how long B&Q gift cards purchased at Mozzers take to activate? Does not appear to be instant…

7% Beardy + 10% PAW + 20% off code brings the prices down nicely but need to buy something this weekend!

    • Steven says:

That 20% off entire shop or specifically just B&Q gift cards. An impressive stack!

    • Andrew says:

Did you get the receipts confirming top up to each gift card?

      • Magic Mike says:

Yep all the receipts show as activated, and the B&Q balance check website also shows the balance, but attempting to use them on the diy.com online checkout fails, so far…

    • Alekun says:

I bought an Argos card and took a day or 2 after purchase to activate. called the GC number and they said to give it a day and it worked after that.

    • Peter K says:

As a general point, some gift cards take 45 minutes to activate, others 24hrs. I can’t remember whichn ones are in which camp now, but I looked it up a few years ago when more relevant to me.
