Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Has anyone used DAY 2 PCR TEST with Randox? Their click collect one is 34.99 which I think is good price. If we order 3 kits for a family of 3, do we get individual ref no to fill or we have to order 3 kits separately. Can’t get through their Customer Support. Thanks!

  • Missing points says:

I’ve noticed that my Hilton points from the Hilton Barclaycard are rather late posting. Whenever I earn over 100,000 in a month, they always land in the account in 2 batches. For instance if I was to have earned 110,000, the first batch of points (the 10k) would land in the account around 22/23 of the month and then the remaining 100k lands a few days later. But the 100k hasn’t landed yet!

    Has anyone else experienced delays?

    • Cranzle says:

Do let us know when if or when you received card termination notice letter from Barclaycard

      • Mick S says:

        🙂

      • Missing points says:

No termination notice from Barclaycard. I’ve often earned over 100k points in a month for the last few years. A lot of business spend goes through the card

        • Jonathan says:

On a personal card? That would be clearer grounds for closure than MS tbh!

        • Cranzle says:

Rob mentioned a few days ago that a freind of his had received notice of account closure.

    • Mick S says:

      >100K in a month? not something i’ve ever had experience of I’m afraid.
my usual amount of points have been posting on time though, as recently as 24th Nov.

    • aviosnewbie says:

I have experienced this. My guess is they have some system issue when it gets into 6 figures. So now I stop at 95000 points

    • Mike says:

i normally receive Hilton points from Barclaycard around the 23rd monthly but nothing received in November and the total is 48k which is a lot more than usual . not even sure who to complain to

    • Doog1000 says:

I have also experienced delay last month – 80k points due on nov 22 but still nothing

  • Harry Holden says:

Any know how, without calling BA, How do I find the AA Record Locator number from a BA booking reference? Finnair doesn’t work and AA do not accept 125 ticket numbers?

    • JDB says:

Try putting your booking into CheckMyTrip – that usually shows the other airline PNR.

    • bafan says:

DM American on Twitter with the ticket number, they can dig it out for you. I did it recently for an Avios booking and they got back to me within 4 hours. Not like BA and the days long wait..

  • Harry Holden says:

Tried Check my trip – shows BA number twice as confirmation number and booking reference. How long does it take for the confirmed booking to form on AA’s system?

  • Harry Holden says:

Ah. Found it myself on BA.com. If I try to select a seat on the AA flight BA.com takes you to the “we need to transfer you to AA.com” page and both references are shown at the bottom of that page. Genius from BA IT team – thumbs up.

  • aviosnewbie says:

Someone mentioned last month that they (or somebody they know) managed to get a booster jab at a walk-in centre before the 6months period from the 2nd vaccine was up. Can you pls help with exactly which London center it was? I tried 3-4 walk in centers/pharmacies in North west London, but was turned away. Nothing doing until it was exactly 180 days from 2nd dose. We’re traveling to the US on 18 Dec and I’m keen to get the booster before that date (my 6months period ends on 25 Dec, and nobody at the vaccine centers entertained me when I explained the situation or allowed a leeway of 20 days). Thanks!

    • meta says:

I tried at a few centres around North London and no luck. I am traveling on 17 Dec and the earliest they could book me in is 15 Dec (exactly 6 months after) which I’m not doing as it’s two days before my trip. So I guess I’ll just book for January.

      • aviosnewbie says:

I think it’s ridiculous that the centers aren’t allowing for any leeway with everything going on. Especially when the govt has already encouraged ppl to get a booster at 3 months. Also, harrow council had a walk in center last weekend where they explicitly mentioned 5months as here: https://www.harrow.gov.uk/news/article/11021/pick-up-a-covid-jab-at-the-civic-centre-this-weekend

I even showed this link to the walk in center I visited and they refused saying they cannot go by what another council does. I can understand if there was a shortage and they wanted to prioritise certain age groups, but I was told they have more than enough supply.

        • meta says:

All of them said that the NHS guidance is 6 months despite what the government and website are saying. On Wednesday, at one centre, they even showed me the official looking NHS update they received on 1 Dec to say 6 months only for now until they update the systems.

        • Mel TS says:

Wish I’d known about this. Just looked at harrow council – doing another walk in session this weekend – and now it says from 6 months. Where is the rationale in that – last week I could have gone to have mine done but this week I can’t?!

    • Gavin says:

Park Royal Medical Practice (Acton) is doing Pfizer boosters for 18+ and 3+ months from tomorrow. Google “Reddit getjabbed” to find the Reddit forum with more info (and other walk in centres)

      • Soloflyer1977 says:

I had my booster at Grims Dyke Golf Club HA5 4AL in mid Nov. I had pre-booked mine but there were a few people who were walkins. One lady was asked when she had her 2nd jab and said the end of May (i.e. 5.5 months) and was no problem. Maybe worth a try.

    • Sarah says:

I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that from this Saturday you should be able to get the booster after 5 months, might be worth holding off and trying next week at a walk-in

    • Mel TS says:

I tried this morning – over 40 and 5 and 1/2 months since my vaccine – was turned away also at a walk in. Was told possibly might be able to go back and try w/c 13th.
The whole situation is ridiculous – how they think they are going to get everyone booster by the end of Jan I have no idea. The poor frontline staff are going to get swamped.

      • meta says:

And many vaccination centres are only open on 29th Dec between 24th Dec and 4th Jan.

        • Anna says:

I got turned away when I asked if I could have it ONE day early yesterday (needed to be in town for something else). There was no one there and they were accepting walk in if you’d had your second jab up till the day before I had mine. This morning when I went back for my appointment the queue was 15 – 20 mins and everyone was packed in the same (boiling hot) room for the 15 minute wait afterwards!

    • Tracy says:

Our health board updated their systems yesterday, now only need a 12 week wait after 2nd jab. I got my booster yesterday, 5 months after 2nd jab. No walk ins though, I had an appt. This was in Scotland….

  • Gavin says:

Hilton have generously offered me a number of paid upgrades, some better than others.

£16 for a King Deluxe room which includes free parking which otherwise is £15

£16 for 8am checkin IF available

£45 for romance package which is Prosecco, chocs and rose petals.

    • Anna says:

We got asked at check in once if we were celebrating anything and mentioned that it was our wedding anniversary – jokingly as we were sharing a family room with our teenager before an early flight. When we got back from dinner they had strewn one of the beds with the rose petals 😱

    • Gavin says:

I’d be tempted with the first one, but kind of hoping I get upgraded into the Deluxe room anyway, I’m currently one category below having been moved up one by Hilton already.

    • kitten says:

      Which exact Hilton, please

  • Green Plastic says:

Flew 2 sectors on 16/17 November and neither tier points nor avios has posted on my Exec Club account yet. Went to complete the missing avios form on BA.com but it didn’t recognize my e-ticket number. So I’ve completed the complaints form but not expecting a quick response. Is that the right approach or is there another avenue I should explore to get this done quicker?

    • SimonM says:

I just had exactly this – for a flight taken two weeks ago or so. The claim Avios section on the BA website wouldn’t recognise my ticket number. I raised it with BA via Twitter, who came back to say they were having trouble with it too but they’d passed it to the Exec Club to look at. I got an email about ten minutes later to say my miles and tier points had been awarded which was the case.

      • Green Plastic says:

Brilliant, will try this – thank you!

      • Rich says:

I’ve had the exact same issue with a flight on 19 Nov. Outbound has been credited, but the return is completely missing + the ticket number isn’t being recognised. My partner checked her account and both flights are there.

The difference for me is that I contacted BA on Twitter 3 days ago and chased 1 day ago. I’ve had no response to either tweet. Is there an email address or web form I can use instead?
