We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I posted previously but no response I think. I got a naughty email from curve from over using the card for reasons that they stated is allowed, and not using it for day to day transactions. They emailed asking me what my transactions were for, and I responded in a high level. It has been 2 weeks and I have heard nothing. Has anyone been though this and know what is next? I am paying for metal, and rather it does not sit there doing nothing.

    • stevenhp1987 says:

Curves customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Chances are you’ll never get a response, or one months down the line!

Dublin government policy on testing, er, evolving…

    • John says:

Either you’re going to get shut down in which case just rinse it, or they’ll accept your explanation and you can start adding some more “normal” spend to dilute your MS

    • Rui N. says:

Does the card still works? When I had a KYC the card kep working just fine… eventually got an email back where I didn’t even understand what they were saying. But the card kept working even after that, so I didn’t get back to them to try to clarify.

    • Jonathan says:

Try it for a normal transaction ie. a supermarket & see if it’s blocked. In future put some of your day to day spend through it to keep Curve sweet. Obviously your underlying card provider may not like it but sounds like you’ve potentially already burnt those bridges.

      • Reney says:

Thanks all, I am only using my curve with one underlying card which I won’t miss too much (may regret at a later date). It is still working, putting some little spends on it to keep them happy.

  • Whisper says:

We’re heading to Tenerife on Sunday for 5 days and the flight back to LHR on Friday gets in at 2220 so we have to stay the night at LHR before our 0640 flight home on Saturday morning. What are my checked bag options (I don’t want to have to carry them to the hotel)? Can bags be checked through for overnight stops? I searched LHR T5 bag drop and it says the overnight bag drop closes at 2100 which is no use to us and also seems a bit silly for arrivals after 2100? Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome please.

    • Anna says:

If it’s all on one PNR you should be able to check the bags through and it won’t matter that you’ve got an overnight stop. Otherwise you’ll have to collect and re-check.
Are you all fully vaxxed for the new Spanish entry requirements?!

      • Whisper says:

Thanks Anna, yes one ticket and fully vaxed. It’s our first attempt at a Tier point run – using the BA holidays double tier point offer 🙂 As far as I can see it’s still OK for fully vaxed to Spain, they have banned un-vaxed – is that your understanding?

        • Anna says:

All sounds good then – yes, having to connect via that London does have the single advantage of being decent source of Tier points for a 40 minute flight, plus one trip can count as your 4 qualifying sectors for status!

    • Rich says:

Bags will be checked through to your final destination by default.

Usually people have the opposite problem – if they only want to check bags as far as LHR.

I think there’s no change for fully vaxxed to Spain. Just need proof of vax and health control form.

  • Mark says:

How do I link a flight that I already flown to my BA/Avios?

    • Jonathan says:

You’ll need to ring / email them

It has to have been a fairly recent flight, I think anything outside 6 months won’t be processed, even if you’ve things like emails, it doesn’t mean anything to them if it’s outside their timeframe allowance

      • AJA says:

Can’t you just fill in the form to claim missing Avios on BA website?

  • Mjshort says:

Trying to push back a flight cancelled by BA (that was departing onDec 6th) outside their “12 month Ticket validity”, only Blue member so called 03444930747, holding for 1 hour then they answered.
They did not have any avios seats for when I want to go out.
They said it was their “Final Answer” so I’m now doing a Letter Before Action.

Can someone let me have the Waterside Legal Department details please?

Has anyone received the ‘80% off final value fees’ offer from Ebay recently? I usually get the offer every 2 weeks but nothing since 12 November. I’m trying to work out if it’s just me or whether Ebay is being a bit tight at present. Thanks.

    • Adam G says:

Received a 70% off email this morning, so it seems they have might have tightened their offer compared to previously

    • Whisper says:

Yes – I got the 70% offer today. I guess they are gradually reducing the offer value for the people who regularly use them.

    • Tw33ty says:

I’ve only ever been getting the 70% off fees, never had the 80% offer

      • Whisper2 says:

        I’ve had £1, then 80%, then £2 (several times) and now 70%

        • EwanG says:

You’re way luckier than me. I very rarely get the emails offering the reduced FVF but I keep an eye on the hot site and most of the time through that find I’m eligible for the 80% off offers & today activated 70% one. Handy as I’ve been selling a lot recently!!

  • Alan says:

Datapoint – looks like BA have disabled online Avios->Nectar transfer again, the reverse transfer can still be completed online.

    • DAJ says:

I am still waiting for a transfer (50,000 -Avios to Nectar) submitted 13 days ago. What amazes me is that the Avios are taken immediately but we have to wait so long for the Nectar points to post.

Call me a cynic, but if this has been disabled as you describe, my hunch would be that with Christmas approaching, there will be significant one way traffic re conversions (into Nectar) which is causing some angst.

Hopefully my transfer will complete soon as I have gifts to buy!

  • Max says:

    Iberia a crooks!

I have a negative Avios account balance since I transfered my 90000 Avios out to BAEC 3 years ago.
Usually Avios expire after 3 years, however not my negative ones?!

    • Babyg says:

LOL, this is a wind up right?

    • Benilyn says:

      Decent banter

    • yorkieflyer says:

its coming to an account near you…..

    • Lady London says:

      Same here.
It was Iberia messing with my flights unfairly and refusing to sort it that caused the negative balance in the first place. Even though together with an agent a complete still avios-based solution to the mess Iberia had made was found.

Basically I hope never to buy a ticket on Iberia again unless for practically immediate travel. I will not run the risk of having my booked flights messed up by Iberia again and having Iberia refuse to fix the mess they’ve madr

Any decent GM Champagne offers around ? Seeing as going to be at home for the festive season might as well stock up …
