We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Couple of questions here, relating to a Virgin flight to USA in a fortnights time.

    1. The flexible booking policy – I cannot find anything which says the latest date by which you can change (or take a voucher) for your flight – does anyone know?

    2. I don’t currently have any travel insurance. If I test positive within 1 day of the flight (as required by the USA entry requirements) and I have missed my opportunity to change per question 1 – then it seems my only recourse for getting my money back is through travel insurance. Will a policy taken out now, cover not being able to travel for a flight booked some time ago?

    TIA for helpful information!

    • AndyGWP says:

My travel insurance terms (mostly) say you’re covered from when the policy is taken out, or the flights were booked – whichever is later

Most travel insurance websites have a Covid FAQs section so best to check for your specific scenario

    • James says:

You can take a voucher up until check in closes for the flight. Did it for a Barbados trip in September.

    • Lady London says:

You’re going to USA…. and you don’t have travel insurance.

Unless you have some other coverage there, the USA is the last place you should go without insurance.

      • Leon P says:

The clue is in the word currently :o)

I will most certainly have travel insurance by the time I step foot on the plane, but my question was specifically about the terms under which I could claim for my tickets.

By understanding my options, I can leave my decision to go or not to the last possible moment.

Struggled to logon to Flying Club all afternoon. Down for maintenance 🤔

Just requested a voucher using the BA form on their website for an upcoming trip. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to issue the voucher?

    • Whisper says:

It took 3 or 4 days when I did it for a BA Holidays booking last month.

      • Manny_D says:

Did you receive a confirmation email that the voucher request had been submitted? Or just an email with the voucher when it was processed?

        • GaryE says:

Hi – did it this week – received an email stating that my application for a voucher was being processed and would hear back within 7 days. Got the voucher after about 24 hours.

    • Andy says:

Normally pretty quick – don’t think I’ve ever had to wait more than 10 minutes

  • Graeme says:

A silly question, I know – but I don’t want to mess it up.

Toying with the idea of cancelling a cash BA booking for next weekend but want to make sure I can get an FTV. When I go through the process it mentions calculating my refund on the Consent page – but I don’t want a refund, I want the FTV. I know there will be at least one more step after the Consent page where I’m sure it’ll mention an FTV, but I don’t want to click ‘Continue’ and cancel without knowing. Can anyone allay my stupid fears? It’s a Stuttgart flight booked in February.

    The steps go:

MMB > Cancel Booking > Consent (Continue button)……

    Thanks all.

I see BA’s log in for Nectar conversion is broken again.

  • Harry T says:

Anyone have any thoughts or advice on the Oneworld business class lounges at CDG?

    • Sam G says:

If you’re flying BA then there isn’t a lounge currently – they use Cathay Pacific and it’s closed, no alternative arrangements in place. If you’re flying another OW carrier best to check the oneworld lounge website as they may have made other arrangements

A Randox data point for you all. Completed drive through PCR at Stansted at 8:30 this morning, and result (-ive) came back at 19:20 this evening. Happy with that turnaround.

    • Tracey says:

Whereas my friend did a day 2 PCR at 8am yesterday morning and still doesn’t have her result.

Oops – at expresstest Brent Cross, London.

My partners test taken at the same time as mine has not come back yet. Her email saying the sample was at the laboratory also came after mine!

DP Amazon Visa card trick. My spare non prime account has a promotion offer appeared but only has £10 off instead £20 for adding non-visa card.
